Duplicate Player Creation Upon Conversion

Using the latest version of OOTP 17, I converted an online, histoircal league from OOTP 16 to OOTP 17. During the conversion, any players with special characters in their names, like apostrophes for O'Neill, O'Brien, O'Malley or O'Neal or spaces in their names for where periods would be like R J, B J, or St Claire, were duplicated and added to our free agency pool. The players were given experience they would have based on their real life stats and all have sequential player IDs in our database.

Is there anything we can do to prevent this issue from coming back once I delete the players out of the league file or will this return every season, when new players are added to the league file for the amateur draft?

OOTP 17 changed from the old Lahman player id's to bbref's version. The type of player names you mentioned have new id's. Since your game has both in use the players are duplicated as OOTP uses the id to know whom is who. You would need to delete the players with old id's or this will reoccur or delete the new players and change the id's of the old ones.
