Dan Dobbek 1959

Little of him in color in either uniform of his franchise's two stops, Washington (1959-60) and Minnesota (1961). Never seen him in any shot with the team to which the Twins traded him in '61-62, Cincinnati.

Paul Dicken 1964

Nothing else known of him in color; 13 pinch-hit appearances with the '64 and '66 Indians and not as much as a walk (five strikeouts):

Don Dillard 1959

Once again, Topps serving as the primary archivist of baseball in the '57-'80 era. Don Dillard played 272 games for Cleveland and Milwaukee between 1959 and 1965. Try finding a color image of him not taken by the card manufacturer. This looks like 1961:

And one more - the pitcher famed for everything except pitching (shares a rookie card with Tom Seaver; traded for a manager in Gil Hodges; original host at the original all-sports radio operation). This was his last big league stop at Detroit:

you'll notice a button labeled "Permalink" at the upper right corner of each post... copying that link and pasting it into a new post will do the trick.

According to the Sporting Life of March 4, 1905 (page 5)--Fred Metcalf, Con Starkells, and James Whitely were all pitchers.

Starnell
Metcalf
Whitely

I believe that "Starnell" was major leaguer Conrad "Con" Starkel. The Evening World (NY, NY) of March 31, 1905 reported that a Starkell failed to make the New York Highlanders team. Looking closely at the photo you posted, the lettering could very well read "Starkell." I did a photo comparison and the player seems to resemble Con Starkel.

Couldn't come up with a first name for Metcalf, but did learn that he was a pitcher. The New York Times of 3/3/1905 mentioned that fact.

"Reub" Whitely was a pitcher. The above two sources provided that information. After leaving the Highlanders, Whitely went to Providence of the Eastern League, but was gone from there about a month later.

I sent them on request to Rainmaker. The images are:

978-979 Jimmy McMath
980-991 Ken McMullen
992-999 Dave McNally

I think I should not have "attached" this pic. Please delete it Postmaster. Sorry for the blunder.

Bibb Falk - star Player - College baseball Hall Of Fame Coach

I recently discovered the career of Bibb Falk.
He put up some all-star like number in the years just before the creation of the MLB all-star game (1920-1931), hitting .314 lifetime.
Then he became the head baseball coach of his alma mater (U. of Texas) where he served for decades, beginning in 1940 he lived to the age of 90 (1899-1989)..
Falk was posthumously elected to the College Baseball Hall Of Fame in 2007.
Thanks in advance for Any photos from his MLB playing days or college coaching days members might post.
