Exclamation Game Crashes Immediately on Startup

I know I posted about this in the other thread but I'm really hoping someone from OOTPDevelopments sees this.

I bought the game on Sunday (10th July) through Steam and so far haven't been able to play the game. It just simply will not load. It'll get as far as maybe 90% and then crash straight to desktop with no warnings.

Upon restarting I get a popup telling me a "Crashed on startup" flag has been set and all graphics options will be restored to default. The cycle then repeats. The game boots to desktop, reload, get error popup and then back to desktop again.

So far to date I have tried to fix the issue with the following solutions.
  • Re-installing the game.
  • Verifying the game files with Steams server.
  • Running the game as an Administrator.
  • Changing the compatability mode.
  • Running the game from the .exe directly rather than through Steam.
  • Creating a shortcut and using some additional parameters to get it to load in safe mode (this was taken from an OOTP16 forum post on Steam).
  • Uninstalling and doing a clean install of my Graphics drivers. FYI I'm running a Radeon R9 200 series on Windows 8.1 64-bit.
  • Disabling all background programs.

None of this has worked.

Could someone from OOTPDevelopments please shed some light on why this game simply does not work for me? I'm absolutely gutted that it doesn't work and I really don't want to go get a refund for it from Steam.

I've opened a support ticket but as of yet have had no response.

I, too, have done everything you've tried. The commonality with everyone who has this exe not working issue is; Steam purchase and Radeon cards. Usually both..in fact, I haven't read of anyone who has this issue who ISN'T running OOTP17 through Steam who DOESN'T have a Radeon card. It's either a Steam issue, or Radeon issue or a programming issue; most likely a combination of all three. I submitted a ticket last Thursday;waiting for a response. Steam ignores this: they send you right to the OOTP DEV bugs site. So I'm afraid we have to wait for the OOTP DEVs to work this out. Radeons are very common cards, so the game SHOULD work with them. Mine suddenly stopped working last week. Had latest OOTP update, latest drivers, AV NOT running; blah blah....tried everything but a system restore, which I WILL NOT DO for one game. Hope our problem gets patched, and soon. Game was running fine for me for well over a month.

Just wanting to let people know who are following this issue.

I've had a response from my support ticket. They have said they are aware of the issue and have passed my details onto the developers who are looking into it.

Thanks. Good to know. And as I mentioned elsewhere, two folks somewhere on the website here mentioned a sys restore DID fix their problem, but that's a major thing to do just for a game, so...hoping OOTP DEVs fix this HUGE issue for us poor saps with Steam purchases and Radeon cards ( :-) )...so we can continue playing this fantastic game. For some reason, though I put in my ticket on 7/8 (and have had this issue since 7/5), I've yet to hear back.

Well, I'm no PC expert, but typically a system restore is not such a major thing. It only updates or rollsback specific types of files, usually those that designate paths or switches. I've done it at least 20 times over the last 5-6 years with no ill effect, with the exception my mail had about 10X the number of new emails it did before that, and they were ones I'd already read.

So you won't believe this but someone on Steam has found a fix for this issue.

Uninstall Plays.tv... Seriously.

I just did that and the game went straight through to the main menu with zero issues.
