AI releasing players instead of removing them from DL

Tried to search for this one, but couldn't find anything.

I'm in the first season using OOTP 17 in a fictional league that's gone for almost a hundred years. Throughout the season, I've noticed a half dozen or so really good players popping up on the Free Agents list mid-season. Each time, it turns out the player was previously injured and it appears his time on the DL ended right about the time he was released (A player was injured for 4 months in April, released in August). For some reason, the AI is dumping these good players instead of putting them back on the active roster. I'm able to fix it when I catch the problem because I can just edit the player back onto his original team (and the AI makes any other necessary roster moves), but it's a pretty serious problem, and I can't guarantee I catch them all before another team swoops in and signs the player.

Is this a known issue? Any fixes out there?
