RainMan: There's an occasional discussion at Sportscollectors.net , but I'm not aware of any organized custom card forum.

When I do see the occasional thread on various sports websites mentioning customs, it's usually a 'Look what I did!' followed by a number of 'Nice!' replies.

I have no desire to trade customs with others. When I need one, I make one.

I think making customs is an individual thing. I know they are for me. I'm a stickler for having customs look *exactly* like the real thing. I often cringe at others' efforts, either for not staying true to the original, or a piss-poor 'new' design with fancy schmancy script fonts and dubious '1 of 1' markings, and the like.

Wow, what an attitude I have. No wonder I keep things to myself!

I'm also a stickler for custom cards that attempt to, but come up short in accurately imitating the look of an older card style. At the same time though, I'm more lenient and open-minded when custom carders create their own style cards. I myself like to add pop-art touches to my own custom jobs.

Perhaps we could create a new thread on here for the folks who like to show their talents and talk about their craft.

Does anyone know of any kind of membership thread, apart from the OOTP site, something under the radar, about trading, comparing, discussing custom cards? I know this is a taboo subject here, and I've learned it should be. But to discuss customs with like-minded individuals would be educational and enlightening to me, at least.
I know of no site but am interested myself as a few members have assisted me over the years with custom creations. A few years back it was requested I share some of these creations, and I agree with you - it felt very 'taboo' in posting simply to the original request. I will confess that I am not in the creation business. Just the custom requesting and subsequent physical production part.

John Sutton 1977

The St. Louis Cardinals traded lefty reliever Mike Wallace to the Rangers during the 1976 off season for John Sutton. Sutton had been in the Rangers organization for 3 seasons going 10-5 with a 5.36 E.R.A and 12 saves at AAA Sacramento in 1976. He made the Cardinals out of spring training in 1977 and made his big league debut on April 7th at Pittsburgh when he entered the game to start out the bottom of the 9th with his Cardinals ahead 12-4. He did not pitch well in his big league debut allowing 2 ER in his 1 inning of work. He stayed with the big league club thru April 24th allowing just 2 ER in 6.2 IP. He came back to the Cardinals in September and pitched in 8 more games finishing the season with a 2-1 record and a 2.59 E.R.A.

The RHP would be drafted in the Rule 5 draft in December by the Twins. He pitched in 17 games for Twins in 1978.

Mystery Mutuals Player

This cabinet card has been floating around the internet for awhile. The auction site that featured it was unsure of its origin, guessed that it was early 1870s and that it featured a New York Mutuals player. Anyone have any thoughts on who it could be?

I can't speak for the moderators of this massive forum, but I have gotten the impression that they fear massive legal repercussions should they do specifically what you suggest. Any such board will need to be independent and probably be password protected.
I am a moderator at a free site that has allowed me to rathole the Vault checklists (Chop Country). I can reach out and see if they are willing to allow such a thread; last year I posted a series of 1966 Braves customs as part of a larger project. I was required to remove them from this site.

Simply put, Rainmaker is correct. We will not have a custom cards thread in this forum; the legal risk is too great. OOTP has been and will continue to be a great place to share baseball photos. Another website or forum will have to play host to custom card central.

Since they are all NFL photos, I would suggest go to football reference and sort them out yourself. No one except okcochise seems to have publicly organized or ID'd the NFL images.

576 is Marc Sullivan, former Red Sox catcher, son of Haywood Sullivan.

Stan Thomas 1974

I don't think there are many photos of Stan Thomas in his Yankees uniform. He was traded to the Yankees from the Mariners in August of 1977. Thomas pitched in just 3 games (all in relief) for the 77 Yanks as a September call up going 1-0 with a 7.11 E.R.A in 6.1 IP with 1 K and 4 BB.

Thomas also does not have many picks with the Mariners who he began 1977 with pitching 13 games for them. TV today has 2 pics of him today with both teams. Here are 2 of the 4 pics of 1977 Stan Thomas today
