They are useful but hardly encyclopedic and really pretty unprofessional. I used to forward all missing transactions, with sources, and have yet to get anything back from them but an argument.

Phillies Vs. Blue Jays
These may muddy the waters a bit. Jimmie from his only year with the Phillies with blue jay patch, 1945 scorecard with blue jay logo and the 1945 uniforms from the uniform database - again with blue jay patches.

That really kind of tips the scales, doesn't it. After seeing the Foxx photo and the scorecard I'd have to believe that 1945 WAS a Blue Jays year. Therefore, Putsy Caballero wasn't the last living Blue Jay. Infielder, re: the Phia. Blue Jays:: Don Hasenmayer, who is due to turn 90 April 4, is the last man standing. Living Players who played for the Phillies at least 60 years Ago.
A Don Hasenmayer-related post from the phillies.com message board.
You can find a lot of rankings by age so I thought I'd try something a little different and rank living ex-Phillies by the most years ago that they made their Phillies team debut. Since 2016 has almost run it's course I took the liberty of using 2017 as the base year. ** Indicates that this is the player's major league debut as well as their Phillies team debut 1945 - 72 years ago: Don Hasenmayer**, 3B-2B. (debut: 5/2/45). 1946 - 71 years ago: Richard Koecher**, P. 1947 - 70 years ago: Curt Simmons**, P. 1949 - 68 years ago: Bob Miller**, P 1950 - 67 years ago: Paul Stuffel**, P. 1951 - 66 years ago: Tommy Brown, OF and Richard Young**, INF. 1953 - 64 years ago: Ted Kazanski**, SS; Tom Qualters**, P and Stan Palys**, OF. 1954 - 63 years ago: Bobby Morgan, 2B-SS; Bob 'Mickey' Micellota**, SS. 1955 - 62 years ago: Bob Bowman**, OF; Jim Owens**, P; Jim Greengrass.OF; Bob Kuzava, P; Ron Negray, P and Fred Van Dusen** OF/PH. 1956 - 61 years ago: Angelo Li Petri**, P; Wally Westlake 3B/OF/PH; Bob Ross, P; Solly Hemus, 2B and Mack Burke**, C. 1957 - 60 years ago: Chuck Harmon, OF. Reference Site
I agree. There is some great data there but there are some errors and some misinformation there. I did send them something and having checked just now, they did update it. Basically for 1971 NBA Draft, they had no record for Mo Layton. But if you went to the team, his stats were there.
My biggest complaint are the names they use. For ABA, they are not familiar with the names so they use full proper names for many players. Like Cincinnatus Powell instead of Cincy Powell. They also use the Muslim names when players changed them for all seasons instead of from the season it changed going forward. Lastly, computer sims and boardgame companies copy the data verbatim so the names there are not the common names used for some players as well. |

Mickey Scott 1972 (1973 Orioles)
Here you go. I believe the team used essentially the same uniforms in 1973 and 1974.

Mickey Scott in 1974
BTW the Orioles reobtained Mickey Scott from Montreal on April 4, 1974 - and the next day they opened the season without him on the roster. All newspaper coverage of the transaction refers to Scott going directly from Montreal's minor league camp to Rochester of the International League. When the Angels obtained Scott in October, 1974, all the coverage refers to him being obtained from Rochester.
Shorter version: doesn't look like Scott spent a day in a 1974 Baltimore uniform. |

Orioles road jerseys with standard varsity numbers
Quote:
Pics: Elrod Hendricks-1974, Brooks Robinson-1975-76, Tim Stoddard-1979-81?, Gary Roenicke-1979. PS: I didn't know that the O's got him "back" in 1974 but I did know that Scott pitched for them in 1972-73...so that pic would have been definitely from 1973. Elmer Bowman 1920
Elmer Bowman's major league career consisted of two pinch-hitting appearances for the 1920 Washington Senators... the image, while not the most sharply focused (and with the glove on the wrong hand), is a cleaned sample taken from a scan of a recently purchased photo and is the first I've seen of this player in a Washington uniform. His current facepack image shows him with the New Haven Profs of the Eastern League.

Bob Adams 1977
The Tigers took Bob Adams in the 3rd round of the 1973 MLB Draft....He began his career as a 3B playing mostly at Lakeland (before a 5 game stint at Montgomery) in the Florida State League hitting .307 with a HR and 28 RBI in 241 AB. He was moved to C in 1974 and spent most of it at AA Montgomery while also getting 27 games at AAA Evansville. He returned to AA ball in 1975 hitting .283 in 297 AB. He profiled as a solid hitter for .AVG but did not show much power. He spent most of 1976 at AAA in a utility role handling catcher while also getting plenty of time at 1B.
In 1977 he returned to Evansville before getting his only time in the big leagues when he was called up to Detroit in July. He went 6-24 with 2 HR off of lefties Bill Travers and Frank Tanana. He started 3 games in his big league career but mostly appeared as a PH. He returned to the Detroit organization in 1978 but spent most of the season at AA. That was his last year in pro ball. |

Leon Everitt (1947 - 2016)
Leon Everitt, who pitched 5 games out of the pen for the expansion Padres in 1969, passed away on August 27, 2016 (word just reaching the necrology sites).
Everitt was a 15th round pick of the Dodgers in 1965. From 1966-1968, Leon put up some very solid numbers--11 and 4 in Single-A in 1966 with a 2.36 ERA and a strikeout per inning, 15-13 in Double-A in 1967 with 200 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.45 (he was also 8-0 with a 1.68 ERA in the Arizona Fall League that year), and 17-10 with a 2.92 ERA and 201 strikeouts with AAA Spokane in 1968. In '68, Everitt was named "the Texas-born minor league pitcher of the year" (apparently by a Texas chapter of the Baseball Writers of America). Everitt and shortstop Tommy Dean were sent to San Diego for Al McBean in mid-April 1969 and the youngster appeared in 5 games, posting an ERA of 8.04 before being farmed out to Single-A Key West (which had a working arrangement that year between the Cubs and Padres, as the minor league systems of expansion teams are never born fully formed). Although he was in camp with the Friars in 1970, Leon was outrighted to Salt Lake City before the end of March, but never pitched for them. I could find no specific mention of the injury that saw Leon drop off the radar so quickly, it is believed that Everitt's issues began as far back as 1967--some back related and some arm related. Although his minor league numbers were exceptional, he was pitching a lot of innings and there were apparently some whispers of a "dead arm" before the trade to San Diego. After baseball, Leon worked as a taxi driver, insurance salesman and construction worker. Leon was one of 7 children. All of his brothers and sisters save one, sister Betty, preceded him in death. Leon was 69. The Vault provided great images of Leon with LA and SD back in July, and those were posted by Merkle. The best B&W image we had prior to the Vault release has also been previously posted, that one by tnfoto in 2011. The attached press photo of Leon with Spokane is the only current offering of anything of Leon on eBay. Last edited by FatJack; 12-21-2016 at 02:18 AM. |
