Problem with historical player

I started replaying historical seasons (using historical transactions and lineups) with the 1982 season and have currently reached 1985. Managing the Dodgers in 1985 I noticed that each time the player RJ Reynolds was slated to be in the starting lineup, the lineup would simply be blank for his spot. I checked the historical box scores at Baseball reference a few times to confirm, but realized that it was always him. I really didn't think that much of the issue until late in the year at the time he was traded to Pittsburgh in the Bill Madlock deal. Madlock arrived in LA on 8/31, but the 3 players sent to Pittsburgh in return (including Sid Bream) arrived at different times. I just figured Reynolds was the last to go, and continued to use him as a reserve. Upon finishing my game on September 14th with a roster that still included Reynolds, I got suspicious and checked the historical transaction log and was shocked to see that he should have departed my roster for Pittsburgh on September 3rd. The transaction is listed as "Executed OK". I examined the Pirates roster and was horrified to find that their very own RJ Reynolds already (historical ID: reynor.01) and he'd been playing for them. His only 1985 stats are from the 10 games with Pittsburgh. It lists his actual 1983 stats as a rookie with LA, but not his 1984 numbers. "My" RJ Reynolds has the historical ID reynorj01 and was not a problem for the historical lineups in either 1983 or 1984. The only solution I can think of is to immediately retire "my" RJ Reynolds and allow the new one to continue his career for Pittsburgh in subsequent seasons. Is there a better solution?

reynor.01 is the correct Reynolds per the database.

Understood. If I change the ID for the Reynolds that I have been using to reynor.01 and put him on the Pittsburgh roster, I assume there won't be any future problems? I realize he is a minor player, but he's effectively lost 600 at bats from his career that he contributed playing for my Dodgers 1983-1985. The one generated for Pittsburgh has only a few at bats and could then be "retired".
