The background of Bryan Braves team giveaways is as incomplete as most of the sets in my collection.
The background is this: beginning in 1989, the Braves began issuing quality player cards on a given day (usually Tuesday), but never gave away complete sets at one time, nor did they make it possible to acquire them through the team, such as the gift shop.
The cards' sponsor was the team's hot dog supplier at the time. As a result, Dubuque was the brand name on cards from 1989-91, Lykes from 1992-96 and Bryan from 1997 until the team discontinued the individual card giveaway in 2003. There was no individual set in 1996.
Beginning in 1990, the same sponsors produced similar, occasionally identical, perforated sets with the team photo giveaway. These cards were slightly smaller. Team set photo card sets were also discontinued in 2003.

The 1997 set totaled 36 normal sized, unnumbered cards unofficially with no pattern to their giveaway. I am missing Greg Maddux and coach Jim Beauchamp, but their cards have a same photo as the perforated set (which I have shown the two MIA cards as representing). Since these have never been posted in the Trading Card Database or in any encyclopedia, I wanted to share this amazing looking set.
The backs were very detailed stats in black and white.

The Braves giveaways were printed in Atlanta by Tucker Castleberry, which also did their programs and yearbooks at the time. My checklists for the remaining, newer sets are frustratingly incomplete. The Braves kept no records about what they were giving away in later seasons and the printer has cleaned out its inventory with little seeing the light of day.

If anyone has a checklist with visual confirmation for the sets from 1998-2003,. please send them to me via my personal email tfproto13@gmail.com. I would love to add them to the Trading Card Database.

Attached are two improved views of Sugar Bear Daniels' face. I realize that these should go onto the minor league thread, but since Daniels was introduced here, it seemed to be appropriate to respond on this thread.

These two photos came from 1974 issues of the Newport News (VA) Daily Press. They show him with the Peninsula Pennants of the Carolina League.

Daniels was a No. 1 draft pick by the Oakland A's. In addition to a large bonus, he was given a fringe benefit of being able to travel with the A's in 1971 during the regular season and the playoffs. However, because he wasn't on their roster, he doesn't qualify as a Sharman Society player.

Baseball-reference.com doesn't indicate where he was from. He graduated from a Detroit, Michigan high school. B-R says he was born in 1953. From newspaper reports giving his age at various points, I think he was born in 1954.

I am impressed!

I have seen cards from the Kahn's (Reds), Coca Cola/Wendy's (Tigers), Miller Lite (Brewers), Keebler (Rangers) and the Mother's Cookies (various teams) sets floating around the 'Net.

What other team sets (not counting the ones Topps sells as a stand-alone package) have there been?
