Bruno Haas 1915

Though he didn't play for the White Sox at all, Haas apparently was trying to make the 1919 roster and got pictured in the team composite.

Can anyone tell me where Topps Vault folders AE and BC can be viewed? There are no links for them at http://images.auctionhelper.com/images/13076/

The Brothers Nixon (Donell 1987) (Otis 1983)

Arguably the fastest set of brothers to ever play baseball

One got plenty of opportunities and the other did not....

Let's start with Donell who had back to back 100 SB seasons in the minor leagues. In 1983 playing for Bakersfield (Seattle A ball) he stole an eye popping 144 bags while batting .321/.391/.408/799. He came back in 1984 with Chattanooga (Seattle AA ball) and swiped 102 bags while batting .269 with a .353 OPB. He made his debut with the Mariners in 1987 getting into 46 games and batting .250 with 21 SB. He did not make the Mariners out of 1988 ST and was sent to the Giants in a mid season trade where he played in 59 games with limited at bats hitting .346 and stealing 11 bases. In 1989 he played in 95 games for the Giants and hit .265 stealing 10 bases. He was released after 1990 ST and caught on with the Orioles where he played in 8 more games hitting .250 with 5 SB,

His older brother Otis had a much more memorable big league career but here he is pictured with his original team the New York Yankees who he played in 13 games with in 1983. In 1982 while in the Yankees organization he stole 107 bases between AA and AAA. We all know he took off when he became a staple in the OF for the great Braves teams of the 90's.

Together the brothers Nixon stole a combined 1580 bases during their professional careers.

Donell Nixon missed all of the 1985 season and most of 1986 due to a broken leg -- possibly the worst enemy a ballplayer who relies on speed. He never tested positive for drugs, unlike Otis.

More Nitz Picking

In honor of Rick Nitz, who returns to the Vault checklist today, we have two corrections from the master checklist, which never dealt completely with the mass hysteria that tried to state that Nitz was, in fact, Bob O'Brien.

Now corrected:

both of which were listed as O'Brien but who are not.

The notorious Donald Johnson/Ken Nixon sequence is revisited for the third(?) time in the Vault, which means that former Southern Cal catcher Johnson now has more Vault photos than he had spring training appearances (three) for the Braves -- as close as he ever got to the big leagues.
The history, which was exhaustively detailed here once before, is that Johnson was added to the Braves' spring squad due to injuries to Gene Oliver and Joe Torre, and the Braves needed a body. Johnson, wearing a number (50) that was issued to an already demoted Carl Morton, was a Vault mystery for quite a while. Now he's just another nobody who had a ton of photos made of him in his lone MLB camp.
Today's Vault offerings also include an appearance by Reid Nichols' epic porn stache.

Admitting up front that I suck at this, 265-266 looks like Chris Myers to me.

Edit: Here. 1990 Bowman

started to put him down, would be logical, but I thought the hat was too recent to match up with his career. Thanks.

So I would've guessed right! Thanks again.

I thought I'd get to see some new TV images of the mid-60s Met. Instead I'm seeing images of an unidentified basketball player in a Chicago Bulls uniform.

You might have tried diagnosing the problem a little. If you looked around the numbering system, you would have figured out that there was a typo, and that Dan Napoleon's image was 279-280, not 289-280.

Bruno Betzel 1914

I received a private message from UKBaseballFan advising me that the Hack Eibel photo above on this page actually depicts Bruno Betzel. I agree. The attached photo of Betzel comes from the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS ENCYCLOPEDIA, by Bob Broeg and Jerry Vickery.

Hank Eibel 1912

Here's Hank Eibel from the Atlanta (Southern Association) team photo in the 1915 Spalding Guide. Have to admit that he looks a lot like Betzel.

Good call, Bob was left-handed and we went to high school together. After baseball, he became a math teacher in Fresno, CA. But Nitz and O'Brien look enough alike to be brothers.

Maybe. But I was interested only in the Napoleon images, and wasn't in the mood to click on dozens of other links to look for an image or two that, perhaps, didn't exist at all.

Easier to let someone else do it for you. You're welcome.
