AI Thinks Jon Lester is a RP?

So I'm in a modified historical game starting in 2012, and that year Jon Lester is on the Red Sox in a contract year (I took over the Cubs). I get the news email that he's unhappy with his role on the team, so I check it out, and he's made 57 relief appearances...

I trade for him, the AI gives him to me for cheap (aging closer + AAAA starter + 2nd round pick), and an ACE is willing to sign a 4 year, $36MM total value contract. Now I definitely know something is up, because it's never that easy to pick up great starting pitching.

My AI manager refuses to play him as a starter. Every news article refers to him as RP Jon Lester. The scouting reports page says he's a pretty good reliever. His projected role is "Bullpen / Emergency Starter". He's rated 8/7/6 overall, and he's got 5 pitches, rated 7, 6, 6, 3, 1, so it's not like he doesn't have the repertoire to start (10 stamina too). What gives? Why is he flagged by the game as a reliever?

And I know I can use "force start at SP", but it screws up my rotation and my manager frequently skips him anyways. I want to find a way to edit him and remove this random RP designation.

How does force role screw up the rotation? It makes him a SP which is what you want.

It sets him as the first starter, which messes up the order, and my manager also skips him sometimes (because he sees a RP in the starting rotation). While it's technically what I want, it doesn't solve the root of the problem.
