Who would you take #1?
I'm usually a little more decisive, but I have a very rare #1 overall pick and I simply cannot decide.
CF Brad D'Ambrosio Work Ethic - 200 Intelligence - 104 My scout's opinion on the top and OSA's on the bottom. Next player will be in post #2.

Defense wins. D'Ambrosio is the easy choice for me.

Richardson doesn't scream special, first basemen like that almost grow on trees. But D'Ambrosio, even if he is closer to OSA, is still a well-hitting centerfielder with excellent defense and speed on the bases. Every time D'Ambrosio.

D'Ambrosino. There is less of a drop off between your scout and the OSA scout, meaning he's more likely to achieve his potential. Richardson looks like he could be a perennial MVP or just another guy. D'Ambrosino looks like he'll be at least good either way. Yes, Richardson might have a higher ceiling offensively, but D'Ambrosino has the added benefit of baserunning and defense, giving you extra flexibility.
I would also factor in how deep your minors are already, though. If you have a very deep minor league with lots of great prospects, maybe you could take the higher risk of RIchardson and maybe get a big payoff |

Guess I'm the odd man out...I'd take Richardson. He's a stud offensively and the OPS numbers show he's going to find ways to get on base. And he's significantly cheaper for the slot.

It's tough because they're different positions. I'd probably go with D'Ambrosio because Richardson is slow, even for 1B.

D'Ambrosio because just about anybody can be converted to first base. Centerfielders are harder to come by.

I would go with D'Ambrosio as well.
I had a difficult decision with my top overall pick, between 2 SP's. They were both very similar in movement & control, and both had 4 pitches (can't remember what). The 2 differences was one had an 85 Stuff potential rating and throws 90-91 MPH, the other had a 78 Stuff potential rating and throws 95-97 MPH. I ended up chosing the guy with the lower rating stuff & higher velocity. Hopefully that ends up being the right decision... I'm not sure if young guys MPH goes up as they get older, it seems like they should to some degree |

Hey where do you see the work ethic and player intelligence numbers? Is that only in the editor?

D'Ambrosio. If Richardson looked like he had more potential to be an elite on-base guy as well I would consider it (especially if you have a DH) but I think when his value is so much just in power, you should take the stud CF.

CF since it's close...
is your scout better than OSA? ie above baselines and well rated scout etc etc..? i'd be disappointed in the luck of that year's crop... no top-tier SP? neither of those guys are special... unless the CF is the most positive guess on the offensive side, then it's still not a mike trout or anything. if there's a dominant SP, may want to rethink it. |

Quote:
Reputation: Good Scout Major Leagues: Outstanding Scout Minor Leagues: Legendary International Scouting: Outstanding Scout Amateurs: Outstanding I was indeed disappointed in the draft class since my starting pitching, while not completely horrible, was a bit lacking in depth. There wasn't a single pitcher available that I would have even slightly considered using a 1st overall pick on.

I ended up selecting D'Ambrosio and as promised here's a little update, their batting stats from their first year in the minors.
I started D'Ambrosio in Short-Season A ball and moved him up to AAA for a few games when they were my only minor league team to make the playoffs. I normally wouldn't do that but I couldn't resist seeing what he could do with a few AAA at-bats. I'll probably start him back at Single A for his second season, but plan to move him along fairly quickly if he performs.
