Better Call Saul
Very competent 1950s back of the rotation starter, Saul Rogovin.. After debuting as a Tiger in 1949, he went 14-9
with the White Sox in 1952, his peak year. He's pictured here in the final stop of his major league career, the Philadelphia Phillies (1955-1957). |

This guy's blatant copyright violations, thousands of them, is one contributing factor that had gotten Topps attorneys to start looking at all of us with increased scrutiny. Merkle actually had to back them off mistakes that myself and others have made by being too casual about the images in the index. Our mod has made those posts taboo, which is the right way to go. I am writing no more about the Vault history. Last edited by Rainmaker; 06-21-2017 at 12:01 AM. |

Harvey Pulliam 1991
Alas, not an actual photo of Pulliam playing for Colorado which I've been searching for but a pretty good facsimile. The hat swap was done well I think.

RMY Auction goodies
Came across this RMY auction tonight (a week too late for bidding, sadly, not that I could afford this stuff...although a couple went for cheap). I've done a site search and, in my opinion, there are better offerings of most, if not all, already posted (certainly for game purposes, where preference would be a portrait shot). But still, some pretty cool images of some fairly obscure early players. They have better known players, too, of course. I've cropped, brightened and greyscaled--hopefully for the better.
Let's see... we've got Hughie Wise (1930 Tigers), Jerry Upp (1908 Naps/Indians), Carson Bigbee (1923 Pirates), Billy Orr (1913 Athletics), and Charley "Sea Lion" Hall (1910 Red Sox). |

Anthony Young (1966 - 2017)
According to Lenny Harris, former Mets and Cubs hurler Anthony Young passed away this afternoon. Anthony was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor earlier this year. A pitcher with undeniable talent, Young nonetheless gained fame for his losing streak while with the Mets. Between 1992 and 1993, he dropped 27 straight decisions, besting the old franchise mark of 19 straight losses by Craig Anderson from 1962-1964 and the previous major league mark of 23 straight losses by Cliff Curtis for the NL Boston franchise (then known as the Doves and Rustlers) in 1910 and 1911. In one of the last showings (IMHO) of old school Mets spirit, the fans rallied around Young during this stretch and he became quite the fan favorite. You don't see that kind of thing from Mets fans much these days. Which makes me sad.
The Mets and Cubs images below have been on my hard drive for some time. I think the Cubs image might be an Uncle Maxie. The Astros image is from ebay and Mothers Cookies. Edit: As soon as I'd posted, I went out to Uncle Maxie's current web site (under his own name, Steve Moore) and he had just posted his gallaries of Young. So I can confirm that the Cubs image IS one of his. Anthony Young Mets gallery Anthony Young Cubs gallery Anthony Young Astros gallery Last edited by FatJack; 06-27-2017 at 06:29 PM. |

"Oh, Mama, Could this Really Be The End": Colon DFA'd
After being roughed up for 6 runs in 4 innings June 28, Bartolo Colon was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves.
This might bring Colon's his 20 year major league career to a close. He was the major leagues' active leader in wins up to the time of his release. A Cy Young Award winner, he's 235-170 lifetime with 2,407 strikeouts. |

A little off topic but I've come across a number of my colorizations
at the SABR site They're uncredited but I still think its cool they're using my work and they'll still be viewed long after I'm gone. |

Photo Doctor Request Again
Would very much like our image magicians to do their thing on a very old Winston Brown image and four newer ones that look anything buit new:
Winston Brown, circa 1961 Billy Moran (a different one than I posted before), Gil Blanco, Rich Beck, Ross Mochitto. The last four have been posted in recent weeks. |
