Sam Thompson
Sam Thompson was a pitcher, first baseman, and outfielder in the Negro Leagues from 1931 through 1942. A photo of him was previously posted on this thread, but it showed him as an older man in a Detroit Stars uniform. This photo shows him during his playing career in a Philadelphia Stars uniform. It is from the seamheads.com website.

He is shown here in the uniform of the Mobile Black Shippers, a team not considered in the Negro Leagues. The photo is from the book BASEBALL IN MOBILE, by Joe Cuhaj and Tamra Carraway-Hinckle.

Alex Albritton
Alex Albritton was a pitcher with the Baltimore Black Sox, Washington Potomacs, Hilldale, Bacharach Giants, and Wilmington Potomacs during the 1921-25 period.
Negro Leagues expert Gary Ashwill has guessed that one of the players in a team photo of the Washington Potomacs is Albritton. For Ashwill's selection, see the following link (Player #4). If it's good enough for Gary, it's good enough for me. http://agatetype.typepad.com/agate_type/ben-taylor/ Last edited by Cusick; 12-28-2018 at 09:53 PM. Reason: Show Albritton photo from Ashwill's team photo. |

Mint Jones
The quality of this photo makes it of questionable utility, but I haven't seen any other image of Ernest "Mint" Jones, who played first base for the Jackonville Red Caps, Cleveland Bears, Philadelphia Stars, and Boston Royal Giants during the 1934-42 period. This photo shows him in a Cleveland Bears uniform, and comes from the Macon (GA) Telegraph of Sept. 28, 1939.

Great pic, but for the record, as he signed himself on that pic, they were both Bostock, Sr & Jr...not Bostick.

Leroy Bass
Leroy "Red" Bass was a catcher for the Homestead Grays and the Pittsburgh Crawfords during the 1938-40 period. The photos are from the Honolulu Star-Advertiser of June 18, 2000. They accompanied an article about him in which he reminisced about his life, including his 25 years as a teacher in the Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was also in the Army for 27 years, rising to the rank of Colonel. He died in 2003 at age 85 and is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.

Purnell Mincy
Pitcher Purnell Mincy was on the 1939 Philadelphia Stars and the 1940 Newark Eagles. An article on a website associated with USA Today opined that Mincy may have been the greatest athlete to come from the Jersey Shore. The photo on the left comes from that article. The photo on the right shows him in a basketball uniform (I think Lakewood High School) and comes from The New York Age newspaper.
