Effect of Secondary Roles in Tactics

Looking at the first line, a primary defensive role would give me left winger a score 4/4, but a secondary defensive role would give him a score of 5/5.

I understand that secondary roles give less of a technical advantage than primary roles, but in situations where the game shows the above discrepancy...how does one decide the exact advantage/disadvantage?

Also, what's the advantage/disadvantage in having a player perform the same role in both the offensive/defensive zones (ie two-way forward role in both the offensive/defensive zone)?
