Steam vs Direct Download Price in Canada

The steam price is ~$40 CAD, but the DD price ~$52. Why is there such a discrepancy between the two? I remember Markus say it's better to support OOTP by DD, but the price difference is ~%20...Any one have any insights why this might be?

Being in Australia, I see the same price discrepancy. I think that it has something to do with the horrible exchange rate that esellerate uses. You are possibly better off making the purchase in US dollars from the OOTP website and relying on your card's exchange rate. YMMV

(Are you sure about the CAD price on Steam? The Canadian dollar is almost the same value as the Australian dollar. $40 CAD is approx. $30.70 USD. I'm not doubting you since I can't see the CAD prices on Steam but that just sounds a little low. If it is true then the Steam price is a pretty good deal)

Sorry, there is nothing we can do about it, our webstore automatically uses current exchange rates, Steam uses fixed prices for different countries.

Yeah, Steam seems to update their forex rates only a couple times a year, so you can get good deals with the CAD has shifted vs the USD. As mentioned, there's nothing we can do about either exchange rate. If you want the e-sellerate version, you can buy in USD and most credit cards only charge you ~2.5% on top of the exchange rate.

Steam has its own exchange rate so they can offer better deals.

Def not a shill but there's a quite a few no FX-fee cards available for us Canadians, including the rogers mastercard

Saved me a buttload of money when I lived in Russia for a year. The foreign exchange fees (especially Paypal and E-Sellerate) can be quite brutal.
