Hello. I currently use DMB to sim various games, but I suspect I do things a bit differently than others for my baseball enjoyment.
I have an All Time Team Greats league disk that I created in DMB and mainly use this to play games. Basically this league contains teams and then players who had their single best season placed on those teams. Such as for the Dodgers I have Roy Campanella from 1953 on the Dodgers team since I chose that as his best year. Each team has likewise been filled out with players who had their best single year on that team and they only exist on that team with only that year. This league took an enormous amount of time to create and maintain over the years as I had to create & rate each player myself from scratch. I enjoy playing games of "the best Dodgers" versus "the best Giants", etc. and I do not do anything with contracts, minor leagues, signing players, general manager activities, etc. as I unfortunately just don't have the time, plus that's not a style of play I think I would enjoy. This is a 'single season' type league and the rosters don't change unless a new player from today has a great year and I place him on his appropriate team. I normally either sim an entire season and then when done, I simply select "Restart Season" to start over. Or I individual play ad-hoc style exhibition games, where I manage a team and play a computer controlled team for some quick and easy fun. I have to admit I've not considered OOTP before because DMB offers exactly what I enjoy doing, but I've always heard good things about OOTP and with the new 3D modeling, I thought I'd inquire about OOTP and ask if I can do something similar with the below questions.

Yes to all of the above. I'll let someone else estimate how easy or difficult some of these tasks might be.

This would all be pretty easy with a little research and some study of the manual.
For #4, you would want to set up your league and then save a copy elsewhere to use for the restart. Otherwise, the game will continue in career mode. |

Thank you pstrickert and Orcin for the replies.
So it sounds possible, though if I read between the lines, OOTP doesn't really operate this way and operates in more of a career only mode. Just to clarify, you can create a team with players from different years on each team? Such as Roy Campenella from 1953, Babe Herman from 1930, Clayton Kershaw from 2015, etc. are all on the Dodgers. I assume there is a function in OOTP where I can simply 'import' or 'copy' players from the internal database to each team to build the rosters? Thank you. I don’t think OOTP can be pigeon-holed as a career-only, GM-only game. Not for the past decade. It has become so many things to so many different people. The many options provide great flexibility. To answer your two questions: yes and yes. Just import individual players and then assign them to a team.

yes, you can import players from different eras. takes a bit of work. i import real players via text files in my fictional league each year, but i just use that one particular year... so i am not the best to explain how to use players from various years, but the post below give a bit more info and hopefully help.
The import function is on the free agent page, far right drop down menu - import historical players. Maybe the manual will make it a tad more clear than this write up. See this link: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...86&postcount=8 post #13 is more specific on how to do it, with a good description by micropterus58 as far as making your own schedule ... that may not be easy. however, in the mods section of this forum, there's a whole mountain of premade-working schedules that will more than likely fit any league you create. And if not, there are people who try to fill requests. And there is a schedule maker program, which i discovered is far too complex for my old and simplified mind. Lots and lots to sift through. hope this helps somewhat. Good luck.

[QUOTE

[/QUOTE] There is an option when creating a historical league or a custom league that allows single season play only and not career play. I have replayed a few of my favourite historical seasons, i turn off financials and all that other management stuff and just play or sim the games out. As another poster said, it is best to save your intial league as a template, because I do not think there is an option to restart a league by simply reverting all stats, team records etc back to zero. |
