Strategy question
So I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle. I traded the only speed I had on my roster, Bill Bruton, along with other parts to Brooklyn for Duke Snider. Snider might not be going anywhere, but I need to have speed at the top of my lineup. Should I attempt to trade other pieces in order to get speed somewhere else, maybe middle infield? My lineup in 1954 currently consists of:
SS - Johnny Logan 2B - Danny O'Connell RF - Andy Pafko CF - Duke Snider LF - Hank Aaron 3B - Eddie Mathews 1B - Joe Adcock C - Del Crandall P Nobody in that lineup is a threat to steal bases, and that, to me, is a gnawing deficiency. I only traded Bruton because the owner ordered me to upgrade at CF. Bruton was also struggling at the time of the trade, hitting just under .200 with no walks through 9 games. Thoughts, anyone?

you don't 'need' speed. but an obp guy with less power lead-off is a good choice in th absence of a burner with good obp skills... anywhre near average speed and baserunning skills will be sufficient not to lose too many runs due to lack of speed. a larger portion of the time it simply won't matter.
if you can trade and improve your team while adding speed, definiteyl do it... don't get me wrong. but, don't trade for a guy with significantly lower expected obp to leadoff than your current 'best' choice on the roster. loss of speed vs loss of obp isn't anywhere near the same weight. far fewer situations are affected by speed.. and obp is important to nearly all situations. I wound up trading O'Connell to the A's for IF Walter Rogers. Rogers has plenty of speed and will start at 2B and leadoff.
