Historical Experts: Need Your Advice About Creating a New All-Star Dynasty League

Historical experts:

I would like to set up an all-time all-star league... (I tried the quickstart all-star league for one season, but found it lacking... too many players are on the wrong teams (Jose Canseco on the Rays, not the A's)... seemed to favor modern day players too much... too many weak players on the rosters... better players were available... also the defensive ratings were not accurate in some instances... for example, Babe Herman and Riggs Stephenson (fine hitters but liabilities in the outfield)... but their defensive stats were very good in the All-Time All-Star quickstart (.990 and .993 FA... should have been .940 FA or .950 FA)... so I would like to create my own all-star league.

What is the best way to import... by leagues... by teams... or by individual players?

What is the most efficient way to create the league? I usually create a custom league, but would be willing to do it in a more efficient way, if it is possible.

League Creation Method:
To begin with, I would want the best players from the first decade (1901-1910) to start the league... all players would be on the team they played the most years... not randomly distributed to all teams... I want the Yankees to remain on the Yankees... want the Cardinals to remain on the Cardinals for the duration of the league.

Any roster expansion would be taken from 1911-1920 decade, then 1921-1930 decade, followed by 1931-1940 and so on... I would start off with the franchise's best players in its early years and then slowly expand to the most recent star players.

If I must, I will import each player from the Baseball-Reference database. (I know how to import players from that database)
Are the player ratings in that database accurate... both offensively, defensively and for pitchers?... or should I put the ratings in myself manually?

I would like "dead ball" player ratings changed to "modern day" equivalence... is this what a "neutralized" database does (like Spritze)?

Does OOTP have an historical database that take the difference of eras into effect, so Cy Young can pitch in modern league play and not have "dead ball" stats?... Can Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner's stats be converted to modern day stats?

I hope this is not too vague... hope I was clear with the type of league I would like.

Sure would appreciate your help and advice.

I don't have the answers to all your questions here, because of my own technical limitations. But first of all you will need to import the specific players you want. To do that, you use the id of the players, which you can find on baseball-reference.com for each, followed by a comma and the year you want to import them starting. You need to put them all on a text (not Word) document, in a single column, single spaced. So it would read like this:

mayswi,1951
mattindo,1983

and so on (these being examples of how the ids for Willie Mays and Don Mattingly might be configured - they might be wrong - check with baseball-reference.com for the correct ones, and the years of their rookie seasons).

Now, you will want to either create a fictional league but will have to click a whole bunch of things to prevent any fictional players from appearing, which you need someone else to explain how to do, or, easier is to create a historical league in the season that you want your league to begin in, say 1901 for example, but rather than hold the inaugural draft, once the league is created, go to ML menu at the top, and then to league info-free agents, and then on the right hand corner for actions click on "delete all free agents".
This will eliminate all the players. Now you click on the same "Actions" and then on "import historical players" and when you get to the window to do that, click on the option to import multiple players from a source, and then click on your text document which you have previously saved in your OOTP 19 file.

Go to Game Settings-League Settings-Rules and unclick the Color Barrier or none of the non-white players will appear in your draft.

You have now imported all the players. Go to League settings and click on "Fantasy Draft". This will set another inaugural draft up. You hold the draft.

Now you go to Game settings, league settings, historical. Change the historical year to whatever year you want to use as the one your batting and pitching standards will be drawn from. This is different from the year you start the league in.

So say you began the league in 1901, but you want your players to play in a 1986 world. You set the historical year in League Settings-Historical - to 1986.

Now play forward by simming to two days before Opening Day.

Then go to Stats and AI and change the settings on the right hand column to the year you want the stats and standards to come from, in this example 1986. So now the player performances will be 1986 ish, instead of deadball 1901, and instead of their historical performance in that original era.

You go to opening day and you are ready to play.

If you want the neutralized stats instead of real stats, that creates a historically average runs context so that the actual seasons of the players will be all transported to that context instead of a specific historical year instead.

Good luck.
