Player Progress Confusion

Little confused with some of the progress reports I'm getting on my players. Have several recent draft picks who could be considered two way players with batting/pitching stats. One was accidentally doing both his 1st season before I turned off 2 way player and made him a SS only (that's all he's done this year, and doing well at it). The other, I made the switch from pitcher to 3B.

The issue is in their scouting reports, they keep getting improvements only as a pitcher. Their stuff, command, even velocity, while I'm not seeing feedback on progress as a hitter. I have "use as a two way player" turned off so it's not like they're getting work at both. The game just feels like it's interpreting them wrong and how I'm trying to use them. Is this something that just bounces back and forth early in their career? New to the game so I don't know what to expect.

For Simmons, my last update on batting stats came in August of 2018. I just got back the updates for June of 2019.
