Segregation in Fictional League Starting in late 1800s?

What do I need to do to ensure that only white players are generated in a fictional league with a starting year in the late 1800s? Is this even possible?

Hate to "bump" this, but I posted it at a horrible hour of the night and it didn't get much attention. Does anyone have any info on this?

By default, if you start a historical game, you all have to do is play it out as normal. There is a color line button in OOTP19 and minor leagues have a "negro league" rules toggle.

If you remove the color line button, integration will happen faster than in real life (but not by default, I found that players don't immediately get signed, but black players are allowed in the minors at least.)

But in your case, just setting up a sim prior to 1946 should enable you to live out segregation in baseball ::eyeroll:: as you wish. This is only a feature in OOTP19.

I could have sworn there was a "color line" option under League Settings, but I can't find it. Maybe someone with sharper eyes can tell me where it is.

Absent that, for an American-based league, you can go about this one of two ways:
  1. In commissioner mode, go into the Explore World page and choose the United States;
  2. In the Nation Editor page, change the numbers for all ethnicities other than US (Modern) to zero;
  3. Go into the Draft Pool and delete all of the players;
  4. Under League Settings/Players, zero out all of the international free agent and scouting options and make sure that the default player origin and amateur draft pool origin settings don't allow for players to come from any other country.
Or, if you want to be more ambitious, you can:
  1. Go into the world_default.xml file (located in the game's database folder);
  2. Under the United States (nation ID 206) you'll see this:
    Code:
                <ETHN_PCTS>
                <ETHN_PCT etid="0" pct="2500" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="1" pct="420" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="2" pct="2" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="3" pct="2" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="4" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="7" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="8" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="9" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="10" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="11" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="12" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="13" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="14" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="15" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="16" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="17" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="18" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="19" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="20" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="21" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="22" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="23" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="24" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="25" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="26" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="27" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="28" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="29" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="30" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="31" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="32" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="34" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="35" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="36" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="37" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="38" pct="1" />
                <ETHN_PCT etid="39" pct="300" />
                </ETHN_PCTS>
  3. Change that to this:
    Code:
                <ETHN_PCTS>
                <ETHN_PCT etid="0" pct="100" />
                </ETHN_PCTS>
Note: although changing the ethnicity to US (Modern) will yield an all-white player pool, those players will have modern names. To get more era-appropriate names, you'll need to download one of the name mods, such as Questdog's historical namesets.

Game Settings> Rules tab
on left side about 1/3 way down "Color Barrier" a box to check or un-check.

Believe it is only available in a historical league. Not an option in fictional unless things changed for OOTP19

Ah, that's why I'm not seeing it.

Well then, it appears the only way to institute the color line in a fictional league is to make changes in the Nation Editor or in the world_default.xml file.

This is what I tried and it mostly works. However, I'm still getting a couple dozen African American players from the United States each time I try to start a league. This is with everything in the nation editor but "U.S. (Modern)" set to 0 and default player origins set to United States only with 0.0% from random origins.

Did you delete all of the free agents that the game initially creates?

Hmmm, it works for me. So you'll have to show us, step-by-step, what you're doing so that we can address the problem.

Also, what are some of the names of the black players that are in your league? Are you seeing any Hispanic players as well? I'm assuming you're in OOTP19, is that correct?

Unfortunately, I don't remember any of their names and I've since deleted the test leagues they were in. Yes there were Hispanic players also and yes I'm playing OOTP 19.

Fortunately, despite being almost certain that I'm not doing anything now that I wasn't doing before, it's all of a sudden working like it's supposed to. I started 3 test leagues and had no issues in 2 of them. In the 3rd test league the "second nation" section of the nation editor had reset to the default of multiple countries instead of empty like I had set it. This happened at some point during a 5 year sim while I was away from the game. It resulted in only 1 non-white player, a black hispanic with a second nationality of Mexico, who was born in the United States and was generated for the amateur draft. I changed the "second nation" section back to blank and after simming ahead multiple more years, it stayed as I had set it.

I started 2 more test leagues after that though, and so far I've been unable to duplicate the "second nation" section of the nation editor resetting to default after I change it. So I guess with everything working as intended 4 out of 5 times, that I'm probably good to go!

However, just to be safe I'm going to list the steps I go through and post screen shots of the pertinent menus so I can be sure that I'm setting everything up right.

1.) First I click on "Create Fictional League" from the league creation wizard and set up the league structure in the first 2 steps.

2.) On the 3rd step I select 1894 settings, check the box for "Automatically adjust league strategy when advancing to new year" and set the Season start date and number of games per team.

3.) On the 4th step I disable automatic league evolution and on the 5th step I select Commissioner Mode and then click on "Advanced Mode."

4.) Once I'm in Advanced Mode I go to the "Rules" section and set "Foreign Players on Active Roster Limit" to "No Foreigners Allowed."

5.) Then I turn off the Amateur Draft and click on the "Players" section. In the players section I click on edit next to "Default Player Origin" and set United States to 100 and all other countries to 0, along with setting "Percentage of random nationality" to 0.

6.) Next I set the following to "None"

"Generate International Amateur Free Agents"
"International Scouting Discoveries (per team)"
"Generate International Established Free Agents" -
"Generate Free Agents from Independent Leagues"

7.) Once that's done I start the game and go straight to League Functions and click on "Clear Rosters."

8.) After that finishes, I go to the transactions screen and delete all the players I just cleared from rosters by deleting all free agents.

9.) Next I go to "Explore World," select The United States and then click on "Nation Editor." Once in the editor I clear all countries from the "Second Nation" section and set it to "0.00% from random other nation."

10.) While still in the nation editor, I go to the "Ethnicities" section and set everything but "U.S. (Modern)" to 0.

11.) Finally, I go back to the League Functions menu and click "Fill Teams With Fictional Players."

Sounds like you're doing everything right. One more step I'd suggest, just to be on the safe side, is between #10 and #11, exit and then re-launch the game. I don't know if that's still necessary, but a few versions ago I had some issues when I tried messing around with the languages/ethnicities of certain countries after creating the league. I'd get a mix of players whose names clearly came from the old settings, and ones who came from the new. Exiting and re-starting before creating the new players seemed to fix it.

Like I said, don't know if that's still necessary or not, but I do it anyway just to be safe (and out of habit) since it only takes another 20 seconds or so...

At one time this was quite easy to do, simply modify the Ethnic file. However I see that file no longer exists (must have been merged in the new DB structure), so that option is out.

Yes, very good advice. I also do that automatically now, which is probably why I forgot to mention it.

Once the ethnicity information was shifted to the world_default.xml file, there was no need for the ethnicities file. It's purely redundant now.
