Adding rookie league teams?
I've noticed that a number of MLB teams have two "higher level rookie" teams and many have two DSL teams. I don't, and it is resulting in some real "logjams" at the lower levels, especially since I am rebuilding -- my upper minors are in bad shape while the lower minors are overflowing. Also, since my farm system is still so weak I need to take more "flyers" on potential diamonds in the rough than would normally be the case. I do still cull chaff, but I'm still fighting to get playing time for everyone. This has resulted in, among other things, having to promote guys before they are ready to ensure the teams all are viable and people at least get some PAs/IPs.
During the offseason I'd like to add a new team to each league (or maybe just DSL) and rename my existing one to avoid confusion. Is this just as simple as editing the league and adding a new team? I'm wondering if there's a limit or something. Though I see that the Yankees have 9 MiLB teams and I have only 7 (AAA, AA, A+, A, A-, 2xR). Is there a cost or any drawback (other than having to manage things) of doing this? Thanks! |

You would have to add an even number of teams to make sure it worked with those leagues. With adding teams make sure to remove the scout, bench coach, and trainer that get added to not affect your budget (happens even for a rookie league team add.) Or you could simply move all players from a rookie ball team that exists and change affiliation to your team. Example move all great falls voyagers players to all white Sox and then adjust the affiliate to your team.
