Question for the devs: will a two-way player develop properly in the IC?
(I address this to the devs because I believe the two-way features are new and so I don't think players would know. I could be wrong, of course.)
So, my scout surprised me a while ago by bringing back what appeared to be an actually good pitching prospect.. unlike the usual. He has 60/60/65 potential, 4 pitches, and the scout said he could be closer material (though his fastball only has 50 potential, which is a little odd.) Anyway, I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. So I figured I'll let him ripen in the IC for a year or two and see what happens. Then just now I was doing a search on batting stats and .. what is this? The same guy has these batting stat potentials: 60/90/45/80/55. Woah. Not much in the way of speed or defense, but still.. it appears my scout may have found me a "baby Ohtani." Now I realize that these may all crater over the next year or two, but I'm interested in trying to avoid that as much as possible. The question is: will he continue to develop on "both sides" in the IC, or do I need to bring him into the DSL? Two-way players are not supported properly in scouting reports yet, which makes it hard to track this. Anyway, if a dev reading this can assist, I'd be grateful. Thanks. ![]() PS I am not even sure two-way players develop on both sides in the minors, but I did check Ohtani in my game and it appears he did advance at least a little as both, so I am assuming so. Also wanted to say that if there is advancement on both sides of a two-way player, it is not showing up in player development reports. I have a few of these guys and every one, it only shows one side. Hope this can be fixed soon.

There's a chance they will develop, but my guess is that in the international complex, they will likely only develop at their primary position. So if you want to groom a player as a two-way threat, I would suggest moving them to a minor league and watching their development closely.

Thanks. I sent you a follow-up by PM but I think the system didn't send it. Might be because I am new.

If players are overmatched or not challenged, they'll also not develop as well, right? But on what basis does the game determine if they are at the right level? Is it their performance outcomes, which may be affected by luck in terms of temporary slumps or hot streaks? Or is overall current ability? And if so, would that mean a very strong defensive player would do better at a higher level even if his hitting wasn't quite as good? Or is it something else?
I don't know if I should just try to follow the coach's recommendations, since I don't know what they are based on. Maybe they should be trusted if there's 100% scouting accuracy, but otherwise can be subject to scouting inaccuracy. I also wonder if I suffer a little disadvantage because my team doesn't have a short season A, so players have to make a bigger jump up from rookie leagues, increasing the chance that they suffer a penalty from be farther from the ideal level. Or is the acceptable league level range quite broad? |
