saving data to a cloud drive?

Hi Guys,

I play OOTP from my steam account. I play at home and work. Currently I save my "saved game" data to a flash drive so as to transfer data from work to home and vice versa.

Is there a way to save my data to a google drive account and eliminate the flash drive?

Thx!!

Jack

Are you talking "live" or zipped file backup? I recently tried doing a hybrid approach; that is, instead of trying to play OOTPB live with game folders in the cloud (I am not sure whether that is even possible), I linked my Google Drive to my saved league folder and used a file synchronization program to back up only new and changed files.

Let me tell you, that took forever and I have a decent ISP and pay for extra upload/download speed. The reason is, the programs involved need to address each one of the text files that OOTPB generates and updates for each day that you simulate. Thousands of them. It's not the file size that makes for the delay, it's the number of files.

You may be seeing this already in that a flash drive is not as fast as a hard drive in this situation. But if you try to upload and download all of these files to a cloud server, either live or as backup, then I think you are going to be sitting around a lot, waiting.

That is why I went back to the procedure of zipping my league file, using the synchronize files protocol to just zip new and changed files, and uploading that to my cloud storage. Much less time involved.

Have you considered Chrome Remote Desktop or TeamViewer etc to play on the home computer? I have found this works well. I use the in home Steam link stream around the house as well. Its just a lot easier than transfering files, because you're actually playing on the main computer.

And I am thanking both of you because I had never heard of Chrome Remote Desktop. I know about remote computer operations, of course, but not Google's version. Now, it's just a matter of whether you want to give Google any more business . . .

I'm with you. I am leery of throwing any more business the way of Google. Without meaning to endorse TeamViewer, as I am not familiar with that one either, I will provide a link to their web site:

https://www.teamviewer.com/en/

And wish them well in their battle against Googliath.
