Quality of Life Suggestion: Force train as utility player

I wish there was a player-level checkmark I could make so that his coaches would train him as a utility player. Poor bat, high speed, excellent glove players I invariably want to turn into utility players. Short of force-starting them at different positions, which is incredibly fiddly, there isn't an easy way to do this.

A decent way to do it is to make them the backup at a number of positions with a high play percentage at each.

I'd have to manually coach all of my minor leagues. This wouldn't help.

I think he means just put them in the depth chart at multiple positions, having the AI start him at different positions every couple days.

You can't do that without manually controlling your minor leagues. Once I sim a day forward it is back to normal. I'm looking for a force-start "utility player" option.

I put this in the Future Suggestions section. Sounds a lot like something I'd like to see as well for batters. Have two options, force start and force utility. If you select force utility, have options (maybe check boxes for each position) that you can check, so the manager forces him into a utility role at whichever positions you choose.

Go add your thoughts in that thread. Maybe if enough people get behind it, they'll give us more force role options in the future.

Short of the developers implementing this idea (which I love) you could always go into commish mode and just assign the specific player just a little bit of experience at the positions you would like him to play (all the IF, all the OF, both, whatever you want) and then the AI will play him in various spots where he has a rating and it will develop over time.

While that's true... if you're playing in Challenge Mode, the workaround is moot.

I think the main point here is to provide more options outside of using commish mode. If I have a manager who wants total control over the lineup/pitching staff/individual player strategies, then so be it... but if I have/want a manager who green-lights me in making decisions over them, then more in-depth, specificity in those decisions would be highly welcome IMO.

force start them at various positions over their MiL career. once you see the defensive ratings isn't increasing, you can assume tehy are 200/200 expereience for that position. think ST has an elevated learning rate? but maybe not.

player strategies under team strategy, or right click any player name - 'game strategies' from context menu.

if you do let it go completely feral, they do end up learning other positions they are capable of playing at some point in minors, but no guarantee either.
