Benched my player mid-inning for sloppy play
My backup 2b has a position rating of 15 as opposed to my starting 2b with a position rating of 11.
In a game with my backup 2b starting, two innings in a row he "slow-walked" to field the ball - and it rolled right past him. He also did one of those "I'll jump for it after it's already flown 20 yards past me" moves. I've seen this before from other players in 3D mode and never really thought too much of it. However, this time, I got frustrated and benched the guy mid-inning. My starting 2b - with the lower position rating - had no such issues for the remainder of the game. I know the 3D graphics aren't exact, but this time it got to me and I made a defensive change because of it. Am I the only one guilty of this? |

I also consider the text PBP to be king over the 3D. What did the PBP say? If the guy was dogging it in the text then I would agree to benching the guy if it becomes an issue. Even though I know the AI doesn't know why I'm benching it or yanking it from the the game, it just makes me feel better as a manager. Now if I'm the GM and manager, I'm questioning why I signed the guy if he's a slacker.

This is an OOTP18 story, but I had an infielder with great defensive ratings who was really error prone for some reason, to the point I'd sometimes substitute an inferior defensive player (ratings-wise) defensively. I simply didn't trust him. One day I got so frustrated with him after yet another error, I immediately traded him after a game. I subsequently brought him back on two separate occasions (he was my version of Billy Martin), but after a particularly costly error in a postseason game, I made a vow that he'd never play another game for my team. To date, he hasn't.
It's these situations where I really wish OOTP had a more robust system for interacting with players. Eastside Hockey Manager had a good system, and I particularly liked its ability to issue fines to players for things like poor performance, violent behaviour, and simply no reason at all. It could be very satisfying sometimes. |

I've benched players for bad play before, but I've never done a Hanley. That's just going too far.
