A suggestion on how to make my scout more relevant...

I've employed three different scouts over my seven years with the game so far, two guys who were basically average and one who is "LEGENDARY" (you might know him, his name is Theo Epstein). Basically I've found there's a little difference in accuracy between the two but not much.

Part of the reason is that, unless I just got finished tinkering with a guy's rating using the editor, I get all my scouting information without having to order my scout to take a special look at the player. I turn on the game, it's there. All players at all levels instantly rated.

My draft class comes up this week for my first look, and hundreds of amateurs are instantly rated. During my sorting of prospects, I get the list to a screen where "Personality" is a category. There's one guy with a rating; everyone else in the draft class is "unknown."

So I put together a little shortlist of prospects I'm interested in knowing more about, and dispatch my scout to take a look at them. First guy up, I get a scouting report that is identical to what I already knew about him, and his personality is still "unknown" in the draft list.

What the heck was the point of scouting him specifically, then?

One of my favorite things about Grey Dog Software's Bowl Bound College Football was that you could scout a specific number of guys each week and get more detailed feedback on them. Using that information, you could make a more informed recruiting pitch. I'd like to see this system brought over to OOTP. It would be great to get more accurate info (or at least, different info) on any player you chose to scout, but failing that, it would be super if you could send your scout out to look into prospects -- especially those one-/two-star guys you're going to be filling out the class with -- and find diamonds in the rough. That's how real-life professional sports teams fill their middle and late draft rounds. And since we have a limited number of days between the draft class being revealed and the actual draft itself, you'd have to be careful who you scouted and who you didn't.

Oh, and as an aside, I'd like to be able to create a shortlist in-game that I could open up while the draft was going on and draft off that list, without having to leave the draft screen itself. But that's another suggestion for a different post. ;-)
