Willie Stargell
While not specifically a historical simulation, this universe was started in 1901, with random debut for all players.
Sadly, Ty Cobb came over as a 37 year old, and had 800 hits before he was done. This, being an older version of OOTP (yeah, I know, I should upgrade!!), had Yasiel Puig a BEAST. Yasiel ended up with 3500 hits, and over 500 home runs, debut in 1933, ending in 1953. Sandy Koufax came over in the deadball era, won 363 games, and holds almost every record there is for starting pitching. Imagine him back when runs were scarce! ...But, Willie Stargell started as 14 hitting, and 19 power. During his rookie year, his hitting went to 17. Yep. Scary. 21 years, and 3600 hits later, he retired. He had 2295 runs scored, 2375 RBI, and 828 home runs. NINE consecutive years of 50 homers or more. Tris Speaker is my all time hits leader, at 3992. He is 40, and still playing, but not for much longer. Pete Rose has 2700 hits, and is 33. He will end up with 3600-3800 hits. Ron Cey is second all time in home runs, at 606. In general, this universe is working out very, very well. George Brett had a career virtually identical to his real life career. Uncanny...year after year of hitting .325, 200 hits, 40 doubles, 25 homers. Musial was Musial, hitting lifetime .330, 3559 hits. Roberto Clemente came over in 1901, ended with 2600 hits, but only 22 home runs total, with diminished runs scored and RBI, as you would expect. Pretty solid universe, with totals adjusted year by year. |

If anyone has a favorite player, I'll let you know how they fared. The year is 1974, but most of great players have had their careers in this league.
