Chicago American Giants c. 1913
This nice photo is currently for sale by Heritage Auctions. Players identified by them are Pete Hill, top row, second from left; Ben Taylor, bottom row, far left, and Rube Foster, bottom row, far right.
If I find a little time, I might get back to this photo and try to identify some additional players. |

Miguel Prats was an outfielder and pitcher with the Cuban Stars at the turn of the century. A photo of him was posted on this thread in February, 2015, but the uniform he was wearing was unidentified. This photo clearly shows him in a Cuban Stars uniform. It is from the Cuban Baseball Research project by Gary Ashwill.

Grant "Home Run" Johnson
A couple of photos of Grant Johnson have been posted previously on this forum, but neither showed him with the Cuban X Giants, as this image does. This is artwork by Graig Kriendler. It will be on display at the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City in the near future.
If you would like to see examples of Greg Kriendler's other pieces featuring Negro Leagues players, check out the following webpage: https://uni-watch.com/2018/08/14/ten...ndler-returns/ Last edited by Cusick; 08-18-2018 at 07:06 AM. |

Photo credit in your name has been added to the original posting. Thank you for sharing your family's photo. Sorry that you feel that your picture was "ripped from Gary's page," but I thought I was giving him credit by citing his blog. I have indeed had a positive working relationship with Gary in other areas of research into Negro Leagues baseball.

John Francis "Hap" Allen was a third baseman with the Pittsburgh Keystones in 1921. Apparently, he also appeared with the Homestead Grays at some point, as the attached photo from the seamheads.com website depicts him in a Grays' uniform.

Provine Bradley
According to seamheads.com, Provine Bradley was a second baseman with the Cincinnati Tigers in 1937. This photo of him comes from Robert Retort's book, Pictorial Negro League Legends Album.
I had posted a photo on this thread on Nov. 25, 2014 showing a player in a Kansas City Monarchs uniform and labelling him as Provine "Dick" Bradley. The identification was based on the Negro Leagues Book, by Clark and Lester, which indicated that such a player was a pitcher for the Monarchs and the Cincinnati Tigers. Given the correction by seamheads.com, I've now revised the original posting to indicated that the 2014 player was Frank Bradley. |

Antonio Castro
Antonio "Tony" Castro was a catcher with the 1929 Cuban Stars. The photo is from the July 14, 1927 issue of the Canonsburg (PA) Daily Notes, and pictures him as a member of the Havana Cuban Red Sox.
Antonio also had a crack at making the major leagues. He was in the spring training camp of the New York Giants in 1927. He played for the Jacksonville Tars of the Southeastern League in 1928. Last edited by Cusick; 01-15-2019 at 04:15 PM. Reason: Identify uniform. |
