Pelayo Chacon, Jr.

Pelayo Chacon, Jr. was a third baseman with the Stars of Cuba in 1930, according to seamheads.com. They can trace their finding back to a box score which indicates that Pelayo Chacon and Pelayo Chacon, Jr. played in the same game for the Stars of Cuba in 1930. The photo is from the beisbolinmortal.blogspot.com website and shows Pelayo Chacon Jr. in 1951. Pelayo Chacon Jr. was born in 1933, and is the brother of Elio Chacon, who played in the major leagues in the 1950's. It does not make sense that Pelayo Chacon Jr. would have played a game in the Negro Leagues in 1930. There is speculation that Pelayo Chacon Sr. fathered another son by a woman other than his wife who bore Pelayo Chacon Jr. and Elio Chacon, and that other son was the one known as "Chacon Jr." in the box score of the Stars of Cuba game. But this has not been nailed down, so the Negro League players are still carried in the books as Pelayo Chacon Sr. and Jr.

Ramon Couto

Ramon Couto was a catcher for the New York Cubans for one game in 1935. The photo is from the book [I]Professional Baseball in North Carolina[I], by J. Chris Holaday. It shows Couto with the Lexington Indians of the North Carolina State League.

P.S. Turns out that this is just another minor league photo of Couto. I had previously posted one of him on this thread, showing him with the Portsmouth Cubs. My error in duplicating this player.

Yes. Pelayo Chacon, Jr. is the brother of Elio Chacon. Their father, Pelayo Chacon, Sr., like junior, played in the Negro Leagues. His photo was posted at the bottom of the following page:

Marzellous "Alphonso" or "M.D." Cox was a pitcher with the Lincoln Giants (1930), Jacksonville Red Caps (1938), and Philadelphia Stars (1945). The record provided for him by seamheads.com represents a merger of records for two pitchers previously identified by other sources -- M. C. "Bob" Cox and M. D. "Alphonse" Cox. The photo is from the seamheads.com website.

Cecil Cole

Cecil Cole was a pitcher with the 1946 Newark Eagles. A photo of him with the Eagles was posted previously on this thread. Rich Bogovich, who has written a biography of Cole for the forthcoming SABR book on the 1946 Eagles, considers the photo below to be the best picture he knows of Cole. It comes from the book Around Connellsville by Paul E. Eckman and Karen Hechler.

Charles "Specs" Davidson

"Specs" Davidson was a pitcher with the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1940 and with the New York Black Yankees from 1946 through 1948. The newspapers gave him various nicknames in addition to "Specs." He was also referred to as Curley, Charlie, and Charley. The two images below obviously came from the same team photo. The one on the left was from a website called deadballbaseball.com. The one on the right was credited to Afro American Newspapers/Gado/Getty Images.

Leon Diggs

Leon Diggs played for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953. One source says he was an outfielder. The photo is from the Marshfield (WI) News-Herald of June 10, 1953. That source says he played 2B for the Clowns and for the Memphis Red Sox. He appears to be pictured in the uniform of the Pittsburgh Crawfords. Another player whose photo is presented on the same page, Harold Johnson, was a former member of the Pittsburgh Crawfords, and is shown in the same uniform. The two were currently playing for the New York Harlem Yankees.

Leon Diggs was the nephew of Bunny Downs, well-known Negro Leagues player and manager of the Indianapolis Clowns.
