Statistically and personally, Mr. Cardinal for many in multiple generations. That will no doubt never change, even for those who never saw him play. While my favorite player all-time is Sutter, no Cardinal is and was as beloved as Musial in franchise history, I'm quite sure.
He might not have the statistics that others have had in team history, but he is still missed by many, for sure. What's more, he stayed married for 72 years to his wife before she died. Many marriages unfortunately end needlessly decades less than that, for various negative reasons when they most likely shouldn't. That speaks volumes to his personal character, I think. That's all for now, folks. CD out.

Sorry CD, but I have to disagree here - no Cardinals player in history came even close to his stats

In certain cases, he has been topped, in terms of statistics, but he still holds many Cardinal records, for sure. CD out.

I was thinking mainly more along the lines of Pujols and Hornsby, among others, but it is true that McGwire did have at least one season where he hit more home runs in a season than Musial ever did in any season of his career, whether legitimately and ethically or not, when he played with the Cardinals. That fact is not in question. But Musial is the most beloved Cardinal by far, in all of team history, for sure. That won't change. Take a look at the batting records that the franchise has. You will see that Musial currently holds 11 team batting records, and others, including McGwire, hold others.
Pujols, no doubt, would have had the most home runs hit as a Cardinal had the Cardinals been able to resign him after the 2011 season. Among other records he probably would have set that Musial still holds after all this time. It is quite likely that Pujols is the second-best Cardinal batter of all time, in many respects, but he will never be the #1 Cardinal of all time, I'm quite sure, in terms of popularity and all, like Musial still is. Thank you for your time and attention. Just some thoughts here from a longtime Cardinal fan who's now somewhere in his 40's. CD out.

I was talking about his career ... his entire career as well as his Cardinals career.
And there's no Cardinals player even near him.

Overall, certainly not, at least for the most part, on the hitting and personality sides, at least. And there's not likely ever going to be, before the world as we know it now ends, I think. He was just that good in many ways, no doubt. CD out.
