Just happened to me also.

This was a recurring bug that happened frequently in PT19, which apparently they still haven't solved.

But it has been established that when this happens you still receive the card which will show up in your Manage Cards screen. And as far as I've heard it's never been a non-iron card, so only people who really keep track of their cards down to the letter have been able to confirm which card they got.

This indicates that there was a connection issue when the game was downloading the card images. It's not a bug per se, just something that occasionally happens and cannot be prevented. You do not lose the players, it's just the image that does not get downloaded for the pack opening animation.
