LIVE rating changes

Can we please get some transparency on how the LIVE ratings are changed on a weekly basis.

For example, are the ZIPS updates that Szymborski does on a weekly basis causing the changes? Or are the changes generated by OOTP staff? or both?

Thank you.

I would also like to know. Because some of the changes were pretty questionable this week. Eric sogard was a 60. And I feel like a 60 shouldn't be dropping 2 points to an iron when they hit around .400 and 3 HRs in a week.

This live rating thing is a disaster. It’s pretty clear that the updates are being done manually, and if the updates aren’t getting done for everyone across the board, they shouldn’t be done at all. I suggested a while back that they should do an update at the all star break and at seasons end. To do this weekly was a nightmare waiting to come to fruition.

Nothing is done manually. What we do is take the total season stats (park-adjusted) and combine them with the original ratings based on playing time. This is all done automatically. So, the more the player plays, the more influence the real stats get. At the end of the season the ratings will be based on 80% real stats and 20% original ratings.

There are still a few kinks to work out it seems, but overall the process works well IMO.

Re: Sogard, I am not really sure what happened there. I'll have to investigate this for next week.
Edit: It looks like something was wrong with the week 5 update, he should not have been a 60. No idea what happened there, impossible to reproduce now.

If I could offer some feedback in this area...I think relievers are currently a bit too volatile. There are some pretty wild swings in ratings from very small numbers of innings pitched.

That's about it though. Overall I think you guys did a great job with the live ratings system.
