yep.... just sitting here hoping for that (never-gonna-happen) big time pull from a CM pack every few days; or that fluke game that generates a crap-load of points....

but if it's karma that my boys have to suck as payment for last night (Blues win! First Stanley Cup in team history), then I'll take it every time

I am referring more about your team performing well when you are asleep and the tendency to jinx it when you wake up and check on them. My teams are like below .450 in historical OL record so it's not like I am in the position to tease about losing. That and my other teams lose a lot too. I can totally get being powerless, it's a position I am in a lot.

The image I posted in that post still applies. I keep hammering the point home and I'm sure everyone's tired of hearing about it, and I apologize in advance, but it's such a contrast from regular OOTP, where you can trade the farm for a star, fire the manager, fire the coaches, ctrl-alt-delete and claim ignorance when the save is corrupt. Boy I would like to fire myself right now.

...but here, I get to stare at a screen telling me that we lost yet again and do absolutely nothing about it except count the minutes until Monday morning and hope that I don't have to cash out mid-week yet again.

EDIT: Just cashed out. Jerry Reuss took yet another hard-luck loss because my offense can't hit for ****. 2.93 ERA, WHIP in the 1.1 range, and he's 3-6. Not going to waste precious time on a team that does not want to win and has no capacity to win. Ballpark factors going back to neutral next week.

I've gone with a new approach for Challenge Mode. The backup save method didn't work, so I've decided to switch up the team I'm simulating every time as I'm bored with the '27 Yankees.

Wednesday's simulation was the 1976 Cincinnati Reds, "The Big Red Machine". It may have been just first time luck, but I got all 3 of my packs on just one season, including a Gold Pack for the Vikings. The Reds had a great year, winning more than 110 games, but of course lost in the NLCS to the underdog Pirates.

Will be fun to play around in baseball's history and pick someone new every Wednesday/Sunday. I think next time we'll see if the 2001 Mariners make it to the World Series.

doing the same here with the switching up the team.... the 1906 Cubs are another team that's hard to mess up.... got a lucky run with them where I picked up a pack right at the end of the season, so I stopped there.... three days later I picked that sim back up with the playoffs and got a pack 7 games later after winning the WS (quickest CM pack I ever got )

Any way to easily delete the 100’s of leagues the game autosaved for challenge mode?

Write a batch file to iterate through them or delete them as you go, which doesn't help you now of course.....

you mean the 'saved game' for each challenge mode you start up? You can just navigate to the saved_games folder in the OOTP20 folder and delete any that you no longer want (granted it could take a few minutes depending on how many/how big the league is, but it's a bit quicker than doing them one-at-a-time in the 'load game' section

Welp, my Mets won't be a factor down the stretch this season. A 11-19 June is making sure of it. Another season in Iron won't be the worst thing in the world, but damn it sucks to be disappointed in how unlucky the team's been (they're among the better teams in the major team stat categories), just haven't gotten any bounces at all.

Only thing left is to hope Shawn Green doesn't pull a McReynolds. Then again, he's a similar-type player, so he probably will. Gonna be spending a week or two building up a points stack so I don't have to make a panic buy in another all or nothing hitter.

Meanwhile, not related to OL teams, my money team pulled 100 Yaz about an hour ago after getting two packs on a whim (Have not spent since the beginning of the month). Why can't my free teams, especially the Patriots, have this luck?

Dang. I checked that folder, and there are only very small files in it. The leagues must have some files stored elsewhere.

I243 at the All Star Break: Some great races going on. In both the AC and NC East the top 3 teams are are all from OL with first to third place separated by 3 1/2 games with Melaka and Victoria in first place (Victoria is .001 ahead of my Knights and they have 2 games in hand). Gotham leads Mudville by 2 games in the AC west with Tacoma holding a 2 game lead over New Zealand in the NC West. If this keeps trending this way there is a strong potential that every playoff team comes from Our League.

OL Standings at the all star break

Team W L PCT
Tacoma Aroma 30 19 0.612
Melaka Armada 21 14 0.600
New Zealand 25 20 0.556
Arkham Horrors 22 18 0.550
Hampton 18 15 0.545
Boogie Knights 24 23 0.511
Gotham Knights 18 18 0.500
SP Cerranos 21 23 0.477
NY Mets 20 24 0.455
Victoria Vikings 18 22 0.450
Stephensville 21 31 0.404
Mudville Muffins 14 25 0.359

My three teams are all involved in some pretty big dogfights for division leads or wildcard spots at the All-Star break.

Most interesting is the Crayons, who rank terribly in most statistical categories, except being 1st in stolen bases (which doesn't add much value). Rickey Henderson has 50 swiped bags at the break. They only got 1 token player in the All-Star game (Aparicio) who didn't even get votes. It looks like my experiment might sort of be working, but I'll keep monitoring.

Someone said yesterday that pitching doesn't require much thought or strategy, and I sort of disagree. Interestingly, my three teams all have a different priority ranking for ratings, with each rating taking a turn at 1/2/3.

Cowboys: STU/CON/MOV
Vikings: MOV/STU/CON
Crayons: CON/MOV/STU

At least it allows for using different pitchers on each team.

Yeah, for challenge mode I really want to learn about the teams that I am using. I just finished doing Braves from 1990 to 2001, and now I have started up a league with the Yankees starting in 1921. One nice thing about the Yankees is they've never been actually "bad", so I could potentially continue that league up to the current day, and watch how things change over the years. That should take a good long time.

Great approach to learn about the various pitchers.
We usually end up with the same ones over and over (MOV/CON/STU) and never learn about the other "hidden" gems that perform well despite having totally different stats.

Could be me, but I am not saying "there's no strategy", just the stats are too little and boring. When I find a fielder I have fun looking at all the aspects from fielding, running and batting. Even just batting alone you have all kinds of variety like pure contact, gap contact, walker, HR machine and so on. I enjoy looking at them and comparing them on the AH.

Pitching...it's just three stats to check first. Hold runner, stamina and pitching profile are important too, but I always look at the big three first. Three is just too boring to me, despite they are enough to have pitcher types like high stuff, finesse pitcher and so on. I always wished if speed, arm slot and pitching type have more significant impacts in the sim. Like I want a submarine pitcher to have sim impact, and not just "I want him because I think submarine is dope" and he pretty much has the same sim impact as a from the top pitcher will the same stats.

Also, screw your Vikings, they continue to chop up my Armada and build houses with it. I think my team is just screwed on a hitter's ballpark.

The Patriots found another upgrade they could not resist. They signed infield defensive wizard Brooks Robinson (80) for 2,500 points! Anything he does with the bat will be a bonus. He will back up all the infield positions the rest of the season to get a little training everywhere until I figure out how I want to utilize him.

To make room on the roster, Luis Castillo has been banished to the reserves. Castillo may yet return next season, but right now we want to see what Brooks can offer.
