Blair, Robles, or Ellsburg in CF?
Usually, I can study the ratings to a point I feel comfortable to chose one player over another, but this one has me stumped. If I were to go only on OVR, it would definitely be Robles, but Robles has speed, Blair has Defense, and Ellsburg has Contact.
What do you guys think? 90 Blair (worth 16k) 96 Robles (worth 21k) 91 Ellsburg (worth 8k) I'm leaning toward platooning Blair(vs L) and Robles(vs R).

Defense is really key IMO in CF, so I would probably pass on Ellsbury. Unless your lineup is already very RH hitter tilted and you need a LH bat.
The other two are pretty close, you could go either way. Robles is the better gap power guy and should walk a little more, Blair will hit more home runs. When the speed is higher than stealing as it is with Robles you may see him run in to a lot of caught stealing attempts. Blair is the best defensive CF of that bunch and cheaper than Robles, so I would probably go with him. And I would look elsewhere for a bat vs RHP as Robles is a RH batter, if you want to platoon Blair I would do it with a LH hitter. Last edited by matingly23; 06-23-2019 at 03:15 PM. |

Another vote for Blair, but that contact against righties will bring some pretty awful hitting with it. Still, a great glove, and defense in CF is more important than the bat.

Sell all three and buy a Trout. That's what I'd, but I'm too *** ***** cheap to spend that kind moolah...

Blair, but watch the splits regularly. If he has trouble against RHP handed pitching then platoon with Robles.
Victor is not a super elite outfielder but it's not like your putting a crap defender out there on your RHP lineup. My $0.02 Last edited by JanesAddctn; 06-23-2019 at 05:01 PM. |

I would go for Blair as well. Robles' %caught, in my experience, isn't amazing because his Stealing holds his Speed back.
If you can keep both Blair and Robles, I'd still set Robles as the starter vRHP and vLHP. I'd then set Robles to spell Blair every few days vRHP and only "if tired" vLHP. That way Blair is unlikely to miss starts vLHP. I'd set Robles as an alternate and defensive replacement at LF and/or RF, and as a pinch runner, to help justify his spot. |

Another vote to eliminate Ellsbury, his range factor makes him a subpar CF and pushes him really into more of a corner OF (where at best his bat makes him limited to a platoon player vs RHP).
For now, I would start Robles everyday over Blair, as Robles is better vs. both LHP and RHP and while not in Blair’s camp as a defender, is still a plus CF. |
