I bear no ill will towards folk who spend gobs of cash...none. Some of them are cool people who I've had very positive interactions with. Some are also possessed of the feeling that spending large amounts somehow equates with knowledge of baseball, and unabashedly advertise themselves as fonts of wisdom. TRIGGER WARNING: They aren't.

My point was not to belittle them en masse, but to point out in a slightly kinder way that anyone can open up a wallet and win, regardless of their intellectual makeup. Those who don't lay out bundles of money are forced to utilize every bit of their wits to succeed. They don't have that fallback option. Money can become a crutch, substituting for hard work and knowledge. That's not always the case, but like many habits it can become a siren song.

You're welcome to debate further with me, Orcin. I've a rustic cabin near Benzonia. We could grill brats and drink beer and talk baseball...because you weren't my target. You actually have good knowledge of the game. Don't take things so personally...it makes one drab and dour, and you seem an interesting person who I'd rather not alienate.
Lol this is perfect I’m actually in awe of you intellectic just simply amazing

I was wondering what was for dinner tonight. I see you're having irony.

The "three B's" sound very inviting. I am sure that I would enjoy that. I will accept your advice and try to learn from it. In return, I will offer some for you. You (and Bill Veeck) can't judge a book by its cover.

How’s your team doing “ty Cobb” I’ll eat my words and call you an actual genius if you’ve won a couple of perfect league world seriers let alone one. Spending money does not say anything about how much skill a person has at this game

A very optimistic seller haha.

That average is also crazy too though, the last few copies I've seen have all gone around 250K but it appears to have been at least a week.

I have one of my 3 teams as a pack only FTP team, fully aware of the inefficiency in that model, but I enjoy the discovery process of getting players I never would have even considered via the AH. Getting to Perfect level is relatively easy, so a FTP packs only team significantly ramps up the challenge, even if it never leads to a Perfect League championship.

I also have two theme teams that rely on purchases in the AH for the same reason, and by their very nature, theme teams are highly inefficient since they artificially reduce the available player population.

It is a game after all, and there really is no ultimate metric or standard other than the enjoyment you get out of it, regardless of the approach or strategy taken.
I do the same thing at work, but instead I just happen to be wired to think about everything that way haha.

Everyone has fun different ways. Nothing wrong at all with it. But if someone's goal is to build the best team they can in the long run with little money invested, then it's helpful advice to tell them not to spend their points on packs.

I only play with one team so this is the approach that worked best for me. Maybe if I get bored I will pivot into an entire theme.

little about their manners, from all appearances. You're out of your rhetorical class, kid. This can only end badly for both of us. In the end, I'll not give you the thrashing you so richly deserve because after nearly 13 years in these forums under one guise or another, I've contributed much and become accepted. I'm not 19-post-Mary looking to stir the pot because some one offended them. I have something to lose. You, on the other hand, are only looking for validation, and you'll find none here. You haven't earned it. You can't buy it either, and I know how that galls you...

As for what you can eat...your money might be better spent on spelling lessons.

This response was better then I could have ever hoped for thank you. Just so you know you’re the one who claimed spending money somehow made a person inferior at the game which is absolutely nonsense. Spending money actually doesn’t make it much easier either unless you are spending in the thousands. So I just asked to prove how you are much more superior then others? But I’ll just answer my own question and say you aren’t and that’s obvious. But to go even further even if you spent a good deal of money you’d still not be superior and that was my whole point.

My apologies to the rest of you for this. I've added Fredo to my ignore list. I'll not be baited into his childish game. Have a good night, all.

Let's all get along lads.

I will say that I agree with the OP that packs is the only way to become elite for a FTP player and it takes extreme luck. Some here have said it's best to build from the auction house and that is 100% true.

Doing that is what I always do but it will lead to a wall eventually so a hybrid approach is probably best. Use the AH to get your team on solid footing and eventually packs is the only way to reach further unless you want to wait forever and you still might since packs are bad overall and after opening untold many I know this firsthand.

Some of us value our time and I am not spending hours grinding free packs and screwing around in the auction house to min/max every cent. That entertains some so have at it. There are many ways to enjoy the game.

Nice that’s exactly what I do too and yeah sometimes it’s a lack of patience but the game isn’t fun if you grind every single detail and wait forever.

Yea using what I admit is probably the mathematically optimal way is wait many weeks and get yourself a meaningful upgrade or grind stuff to the extreme. Not fun to me and I play games to have some fun.

There are plenty of other long-standing, open threads where this discussion has been and will continue to take place and where it hasn't descended into personal attacks
