The "extend player" goal - what if it's a horrible contract though?

One of my goals from team ownership is to extend Justin Turner who is currently 35, already signed for two years @ $18.5m a year and yet Magic wants me to extend him?

I checked what JT wanted and he's asking for six years @ $31m a season lol

So my question is, how much are you penalised if you defy ownership's wishes for the sake of the team?

EDIT: and if I trade him, presumably this would count as a negative as ownership wanted me to extend him?

Punished in what way? I have assumed that the yearly rating depends on beating the ootp Pythagorean.
