3 batter minimum - between innings

I have a question regarding the setting as it is currently coded into OOTP. If we have it set up as a 3-batter minimum (as it is in real life), does this 3-batter rule carry over between innings in OOTP?

I only ask because it appears that it does carry over between innings in the game. However, it is difficult for me to tell with certainty.

In real life, obviously, the three batter minimum does not apply to pitching changes between innings. For example, if a lefty gets the last out of an inning on their first batter, the team can change pitchers between innings.

I understand this is a little more complex to code, but I just want to ensure that this is how it is in-game as well?

It properly does NOT carry over between innings. It’s 3 batters OR end of the inning. I have played through a boatload of games as evidence.

Thanks. I trust you if you've done the legwork to prove it. I mostly have anecdotal evidence and didn't want to do the work to prove something that rarely occurs.

The change you might be noticing is that we don't directly allow pitching changes between innings, so you might get an error trying to drag a new pitcher while your team is batting. You need to wait until the end of your half-inning to replace a pitcher.

Is this change by default even in fictional leagues or is there a setting that needs checkmarked?

I set my league to minimum 1 batter. Baseball stinks for making this rule for something that rarely happens to effect the whole season this way. Terrible rule. I tried it with the new rule for 25 games and it stinks. I know it sounds like I'm ranting and maybe I am but baseball really needs to wise up and just stop it with the petty rule changes. There. I'm done. Have a good morning.

I don't consider it a rant. I think you're making perfect sense and I agree with you 100%. I was watching a video where they were talking about these new rule changes the MLB is contemplating. The subject of the 3 batter minimum came up. Something I had never considered, an MLB reliever mentioned, with a 3 batter minimum you're eliminating the role of "Left-Handed Specialist". I'm sure casual fans would roll their eyes at that, but the Specialist is literally some player's only remaining tool that's keeping them employed and it plays a vital role in close games.

Yeah, FWIW, the LOOGY is already dead, but the "lefty specialist" will soon follow with this new rule. That's not to say that all lefty relievers will die. Lefties with even or reverse splits will survive, but lefties with only good splits against lefty batters will die. I really don't like the idea of making certain roles extinct.

I hate the rule.

But I also hate mid-inning pitching changes. I'd rather just see an extra cost to making a mid-inning pitching change. Like, I don't know, the mid-inning replaced pitcher can't pitch in the next game, which would make you think twice about replacing relievers. Or maybe you had to burn a position player too. So you could still replace him if you really wanted to, but it would cost you.

Thank you. Here is something else to think about. This rule is suppose to take care of the LOOGY, but it effects every pitcher that you bring in the game. The pitcher doesn't even have to be a so called LOOGY and yet it effects him. I had to turn it off in my league. It's not fair to the team in the field.
