Ok, I'm hooked

In all of my time at home now, I have started a 16 team fictional league. I imported the top 50 players at each position throughout baseball history, about 250 pitchers, neutralized stats on import, and held an initial draft. A couple of observations: offensive production is unreal, lots of strikeouts. In my first season Babe Ruth hit 98 home runs and Rogers Hornsby hit 84 with almost 300 RBI. Randy Johnson had nearly 500 strikeouts. After running several consecutive seasons, I have a couple of questions, 1) how do I prevent ratings drop but preserve career stats 2) prevent retirement

My aim is to get some of my sport loving/sport missing friends and play a several seasons while we ride this time out.
