Contract extension bugs
Hello,
Running a long time save and can't solve or get around 2 bugs concerning contract extensions. - Players are upset about negotioations for years after negotiating. I've had a few stars have it lower their moral for up to 4 years after signing. - My best player (best I've efter seen in FHM) complains he wants the role as offensive forward though I am already offering him that role. Chosing other roles isn't helping as he wants that role. So negotiations continue to crash as the game doesn't seem to recongnize I am ineed offering him the role he is requesting. I have the latest version through auto-update. Anyone? Best regards, |

Regarding the second player, is he an upcoming restricted free agent? If that's the case, he may have broken off negotiations but the game is still allowing you to enter offers so you can make a qualifying offer despite negotiations having stopped. He won't accept them (regardless of how good the offer is) until he's ready to begin negotiations again, which will look like he's rejecting the new offer but he's actually just in a state where he won't consider anything.
For the first one, could you upload the save (instructions here)? I'd like to have a look at it, the negotiations normally shouldn't affect morale for anywhere near that length of time. |

I've now uploaded my save. It's titled "Future Sen AndreSod." 1: Most of the disgruntled players are no longer on the team, but currently the player called Youngman for example is unhappy because of negotiations. 10 months after re-signing. And Adam Mikes is upset about negotiations 2 years after signing his current contract. Other, throughout this save, players have been at that status for several years. If they realize after signing they're underpaid maybe it should be re-phrased to "unhappy with contract," though I don't get the feeling you want a feature like that. 2: I've had issues similar to what you describe before but this is not it. I'm pretty sure it's not an issue that can be solved by doing the right thing in game. The player, last name Kohn, can say things like reminding I've lowered my offer but in the same sentence ask for an even _lower_ number. "Ask for response" never leads to a satisfied answer that enables "submit offer" even if I click "meet demand" or even go above his demand. A stand out issue is how he wants the role "offensive forward" even though that's what I'm offering. If I change the role to something else he comes back to wanting that role, but the game doesn't acknowledge that I'm actually offering him the role he want. Something is clearly bugged. Best regards, |

Looks like the negotiation unhappiness was a bug, the negative effect wasn't getting cleared completely when it was supposed to end. The leftover penalty is relatively small, though (Youngman, for example, is much more upset about his icetime), so it won't impede your ability to sign them in the future or have a large effect on their performance.

The bug where the player asks to get the role as offensive forward altough thats the role I'm offering is now happening again. For the 2nd time I will not be able to extend a star. This is game breaking. |

Again, that's a side-effect of the system that keeps the offer open to allow you to enter a qualifying offer for a potential RFA after the player stops negotiating. It'll look like he's negotiating again, but he'll always refuse your requests regardless of whether or not they're matching what he says he wants. He'll eventually begin to treat the offers normally again, although he may need to get to the stage where he becomes an RFA.
It's an awkward, confusing system, and one that's going to get redesigned, but at the moment that's how it works. |

A suspicious thing is how the two players this have happened with are the only two that I've converted to winger even though they were originally defensemen. |

Can you upload that save? I'd like to have a look at a couple of things in it.

The player - Jordan Pruden - is now an RFA with the Blackhawks. As I couldn't resign him even after his contract expired I traded him. The bug seems to extend to the AI, as the Hawks hasn't signed him altough is now Feb 10th, about 5 months since I traded him. Would be nice to get this sorted, as he's possibly the best player I've seen in the game other than McDavid. The only other contender, funny enough, is Michael Kohn, the first player I did the position convertion with. |

OK, found the problem. When you're converting a player from D to F or vice-versa, his starting template is remaining the same, and part of the contract demand system is relying on that template to determine what roles are acceptable to him. The only way to correct it is to go into commissioner mode and switch the template manually on his edit screen (it's under personal details) - e.g. for Pruden, to one of the "Winger," options. (In his case, since negotiations are broken off already, it won't help immediately, since he remains in that state for a while, but if you were to switch his rights to a different team he'd be signable by them immediately.)
Since you're in challenge mode, you'd need to cheat a bit to enable commissioner mode editing: to do that, make a backup copy of your game_settings.dat file, then start a new game with challenge mode off, turn commissioner mode on it it, and then exit and save it. Copy game_settings.dat from it to your regular save, then you'll be able to load that one and edit players. Do that, then exit and delete your game_settings.dat and replace it with the backup you made originally and you'll be back in challenge mode when you reload. |
