what the hell is wrong with this game?

This game gets pegged as being hyper realistic, and I am just not seeing it at all. As a new player who is trying to get his bearings, I decided to play as just a manager, figured its easy enough. Took a job with the AA Bowie Baysox. Here are some fun things that have happened

- The computer GM is neurotic, several players get promoted and demoted nearly every single day, including several times I saw two players get swapped for each other and swapped RIGHT BACK for each other on the SAME DAY. Clearly the game doesnt have the options rules programmed in (must stay in the minors for at least 10 days), and the AI seems absolutely unplayably atrocious.

- At the end of the season, it gave me a rating saying I did a poor job of coaching, and then immediately afterwards it promotes me to AAA, talk about failing upwards.

-I am greeted to the Tides, a team that went 66-74, and am greeted with a message informing me that my goal is to "win multiple international league championships". So clearly the expectations are completely out of whack with the reality of the team offered to me, and i fully expect to be told i did a bad job when this season ends since I dont have a lot of faith that ill be making the playoffs.

I watched another player (pfholden) play on youtube and the game seems equally as completely nonsensical and poorly thought out in his game. His game featured:

-40 man rosters which are incorrect

-a minor league coach who is dead set on playing a pitcher at DH,

-the projection system listing Charlie Blackmon as the odds on favorite to win the MVP in 2020.

-he also mentions that the game's trading isnt very realistic and you need to set it to very hard and put maximum emphasis on prospects for it to trade properly in a rebuild (i got a feeling you gotta swap the settings to make it not rip itself off when youre in win now mode)

I cant imagine that the game is as bad as this in GM mode (the overall issues from the GM game i watched didnt seem as bad) but man, at first playthru it sure seems like a hyper realistic database with a really poorly thought out video game tacked onto the back end. I got a feeling that the AI GMs will be doing some very irregular ****.

In fairness to the game since my sim was mentioned , the pitcher playing at DH was my fault for continuing to happen, as I hadn't located the option to not allow a player to be used 2-way.

There are things I wish were better about the AI, but overall I think the game is quite an accomplishment and pretty realistic.

I've never started as a minor league manager so I can't speak to what you've encountered.

Hey, thanks for posting, been watching thru your videos, have been enjoying them so far, im about 6 episodes in, will probably end up watching it all.

Its good that theres a setting to turn it off, although my issue isnt necessarily the abject stupidity of MY GM when im managing or MY manager when im GMing, obviously I could take full control over my own team, my issue is that if abject stupidity is rampant throughout the AI then it is neither a realistic sim nor a challenge to be successful. The idea that the other 29 teams are just chucking star pitcher prospects into their DH slot doesnt bode well for the game because it means that it isnt simulating realistic manager/GM actions for the other 29 teams.

Yes, That is the problem I have while playing as GM. I feel you have to make a lot of house rules to keep from winning all the time. You can turn off the two way player and all financial decisions to try and even up the playing field and just make one on one trades but it does take away part of the feeling of winning. It is far to easy to take a team like Pittsburgh and win your division year after year. The playoffs get challenging but the season not so much. I love the game but I have a whole lot of house rules I have to follow to make it competitive.
