Unretire Personnel

I have noticed that a lot of current MLB coaches and GM's are retired in the game. I have the Montreal Expos as an expansion team and was going to have Omar Minaya as the GM and he is retired.

Is there anyway to unretire him or do I need to recreate him and he will then have a rating of Inexperienced or Unproven when he should be much better.

Go in commish mode>then select manager/coach/player> select the 'available actions' option and then select the unretire option.

There isn't an unretire option for personnel, only players.

I just think if personnel such as Minaya or Tom Goodwin (the current Mets first base coach) are going to be in the database as retired there should be an option to unretire them or they should be in the database as free agents.

You can, go to the reitred player and in 'available actions' menu choose turn into coach. then you need to search for the person again and they will show up under coaches section.

Have done that but then they have a reputation of unproven or inexperienced. Minaya has about 20+ years of mlb experience and loses his reputation which was excellent. These guys shouldn't be set as retired in the first place. I want to be able to hire some of these staff and not some 71 yr old Japanese guy or a Cuban guy I have never heard of.

Also Minaya only had a very short minor league career and isn't in the game as a player.

You don't have to un-retire them, go into commish mode, and in the editor screen, just assign him to a team, and then a position. This is how I do it in 15, not sure if it has changed for 16

Dude that Japanese guy you're talking about is the home run king and he holds the world record for home runs, show some respect

I assigned him to the Expos in Commish mode using the editor but it still has him listed on his profile page as Team Montreal Expos Current Job Retired and having no contract. On the Front Office Personnel Screen it says he has a 1 year Contract with a salary of $500,000 with the Expos.

** Have added this to the roster thread as something that needs updated **

Yes. That needs to be changed.

In my 2015 MLB game, Don Mattingly retired as Dodgers manager like 3 or 4 days into the 2015 (or maybe 2016) season. I kind of expected a storyline attached to it, but there wasn't. I kind of wanted to unretire him (he was always my favorite player growing up), but the option wasn't there. I'd like to see this as well.

It's been logged as a bug, not sure when it'll be fixed though.

I know this is an old thread, but playing OOTP21 this is still an issue. My game crashed and in the second iteration, my favorite manager retired (he did not in the first). I un-retired him, but his age has stopped tracking and he has stayed in the "retired" status.
