buy from Steam vs OOTP directly?

I see you can buy OOTP-21 from either Steam or from the OOTP website. What's the difference?
Thanks

Same exact game either way. The steam workshop makes it much easier to use the mods, in my opinion.

Steam obviously patches your game automatically, which is a major plus (and the game *is* patched regularly).

The usual argument brought up against Steam is that it takes a bigger cut from the developers than their service partner for direct order. I continue to call bollocks on that one. If the developers didn't make money off Steam, they wouldn't offer the game there in the first place.

The other argument against Steam is that they could just revoke your account and you lose all your games. However, show me somebody that had that happen to them and who didn't deserve it ...

not certain in 21 - but in the past updates were much larger for the stand alone version in the past (directly from OOTP). Steam only seems to update the changed files. (That may not be really accurate- but that's how it seems to me.) So after 5 years of getting the stand alone version directly, i've gone to using the Steam version, just because of update file size. There are pro and cons to both. It all depends on what you're most comfortable with. As far as the game goes - there isn't any difference i can tell.

Steam takes a 30% cut. It’s not if the developers make money or not selling via Steam, of course they do it’s a bigger market, but they don’t make as much if everyone bypassed Steam.

So it’s not BS

I have another question that goes along with this thread. As I have not played the game for at least 4 or 5 years.

1st question is the main question above which has been answered

But 2nd question - Like in the older days they would only give you 2 codes to use if buying direct. Is this still the case? Cause with Steam you can install it on anything that can use steam if im not mistaken correct? So to me that is another huge advantage in using steam ?

I wanna grab this game before the deal ends but need to know best option, As I am building another PC and will need to reinstall it once that is done.

STEAM vs. no STEAM

I purchased OOTPBB21 on STEAM a month a month ago. I was in in the 3rd season as being Mets GM/manager.
All was going well until STEAM had an update. After that I was unable to LEAVE GAME without using CTRL-ALT-DELETE. And the game(s) were never saved.
I received several suggestions on for to rectify the issue from a few kind people in this forum. Unfortunately none worked.
Then I sent in a "ticket" to OOTP. NO assistance from them.
Followed by me contacting STEAM...no answer.
So I bought OOTP a 2nd. time without using STEAM. Still in my 1st. season as Cleveland GM/manager and no issues.
Someone said I didn't have enough room on my hard drive. Well I have 842 MB left.

So if they patch the game, do you download it again? Do you have to backup and restore?
