Consecutive Hitless At Bats
I've been doing an "as played" simulation for the Boston Red Sox since the 1950 season. In 1968, Ray Culp went the entire season (60 at bats) without a hit. So far in the 1969 season (through May 10) he has added another 20 at bats without a hit. Fortunately he is pitching as well as anybody on the BoSox staff. I'm curious if anybody has seen this kind of consecutive futility at the plate?

Finally!
After going hitless for 80 consecutive at-bats throughout the 1968 season and into 1969, Ray Culp broke the string, with a 2nd inning home run no less, off Chuck Dobson on May 14, 1969. His celebration was short-lived, however, when he gave up back-to-back HR's to Tommy Reynolds and Reggie Jackson in the third. Culp's homer was the only run produced by the BoSox, and Culp was saddled with the loss, giving up 4 HR's in a 5-1 loss to Oakland.
