Tom Hausman 1975

For DeweyintheHall's 1978 list, here's the Mets' first-ever re-entry draft free agent signee, in the new-for-'78 pullover with 3-stripe rings on the collar and sleeves. Courtesy of Centerfield Maz. Unfortunate that Tom's hands obscure the team name, though. Also from Centerfield Maz, but I tried to touch this one up a bit. Tom with his lovely wife, Renée. "The Anna Benson of the 1980s", as one message-board poster fondly recalled. This last shot is from 1982 (hence time for Tom to have grown that 'stache), but it's still the same uniform. (The racing stripe starts next season.) The folks at Mets Police want to know what's distracting Tom, that he's not looking at the photographer. As long as it's not how well his campmates are filling out their uniforms, I suppose he'll be okay. (And even then, he might have Renée's okay…it's their business, after all.) Sadly, Tom isn't checking out anyone or anything these days, having checked out in January 2019 at age 65. But glad to help, anyway. |

 Kerry Dineen 1975

Another 1978 request. Not an actual Phillies image; this created card (courtesy of The Phillies Room and a creator named Chachi) is adapted from one of Dineen's Yankees images. A smaller version of this was posted by cheech on page 1347. Is Chachi cheech? Would Joanie thus be Chong? Beats me. |

Chachi's other 1978 Phillies creation. (The picture is actually Pina's 1975 Topps card, in Angels gear, originally.) |

Anyone have a good quality picture of Paul Serna on the Seattle Mariners (1981)? The one I have is just terrible quality.

 Dressler

Wondering whether there is anyone out there with the talent to enlarge this shot of Dressler to 3.5-4x this size, while loosing as little of the resolution as possible (I realize that you're not starting with a crystal clear image anyway) All my unskilled hands can do is use the re-sizing feature in Paint, and that really blurs things too much for it to be useful for my purposes.

Of course the problem is that they didn't pose in their uniforms at all back then; always the dark-blue warm-up jerseys. Otherwise you could just use Serna's card images. (1 Topps, 1 Donruss.) The Getty Images B/W portrait of Paul is in the warm-up, too. Sorry.

 More Messler-ing with Dressler

Used Macintosh Preview to brighten the face, decrease the saturation (compensated by a bump in contrast) and bump up the sharpness, and I got this: Still far from great, but at least you can see Rob's eyes. |

A nice image of Schwert, a seldom-used Yankees backup catcher, is up for bid at Heritage Auctions. This one pictures him during Spring Training in 1915.

As I recall, for 82 the Mets added racing stripes on the shoulders of the uniform, and maybe on the warmup jerseys too. Not absolutely sure about the jerseys, but check Dressed to the Nines for the uniform.

 Wynn Hawkins Mets

Hello all: Asking the thread if there is a ounce of evidence that Wynn Hawkins ever wore a Mets uniform in the spring of 1963? It is well-documented that the Mets acquired Hawkins from Cleveland for $25 K after the '62 season. But not even the NY Times article search could find evidence as to when he returned to the Cleveland AAA club for to pitch in AAA for the entire season. |

Seattle added racing stripes, drop-shadows on the letters, and a deeper shade of road blue in 1981. According to Dressed to the Nines, there don't seem to be any changes between '81 and '82, hence my confusion why only one of the years was specified in the Serna request.
