Rule 5 Draft Not Occurring as Scheduled (in Two Ways)

(I have a league file, New Game With Rule 5 Issue.lg.7z in the FTP, I'm hoping it's able to show my problem satisfactorily...I have a much larger alternative if it needs to be uploaded.)

Using a custom database (again) and a large fictional setup. In this, I have the Rule 5 Draft in my major league enabled to occur on the default date, December 1. In the 2020 seson, my test-sim's first year, it occurred then without a problem. Without any input from me, the game has scheduled the one for next season is scheduled to go on December 28.

To keep the league file small (and easier for me to put on the FTP), I haven't ran the league that far, and thus the second Rule 5 draft is several game months from happening. But the first one was December 1, and the next one moved back 27 days for some reason.

In past leagues I've test-simmed, it has rescheduled and then ultimately not occurred at all even with it set. (In the league I can upload if need be, it stopped after five years and now has the Rule 5 draft set to happen on a blank year. Why five years, I'm not sure.)

Please let me know if I need more information or a better league file; I'll try and provide one or both if I can.

Hmm, not something I've heard about before. We'll try to take a look at this for OOTP22 though and see what's going on.

Thanks. I wish I could give you more exact information about it, but this is a novel issue for me as well. I'd normally be able to sense what's happening after a few test runs, but right now I can't. All I can to is keep tinkering to see what's going on.

Hmm...in another test-sim, it reschedules to the 29th before the first Rule 5 Draft even takes place. By the way, I didn't mention in the initial post that I initially tinkered with the draft year to try and assure that a Rule 5 Draft would be held on time, but it still ended up being rescheduled. So it must be some other issue.

The file for that is "NABL HOF Test.lg.7z", so-called because I thought that scheduling the start of the HOF voting period on a different day would fix this. (Both were scheduled for December 1.) The period in this league starts on January 1, but it turns out that's not the problem.

The only other thing I do that's atypical with this test-sim is use custom playoffs. I've never seen custom playoffs mess up anything before, but you never know...

As it turns out, custom playoffs don't mess anything up in league. So, there is probably an in-season event that messes with the Rule 5 Draft.

I didn't save the file while noticing this, but after I test-simmed an inaugural season without custom playoffs to the end of the postseason, the scheduld Rule 5 Draft for that season went from December 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. Anyway, I elected to fix it manually, but I'll have to pay attention to when the dates change next time. (Oddly, it gives me the option of setting the 2020 Rule 5 Draft to occur in 2019, by the way.) Expect another post about it soon...and probably another league file in the FTP.

This is just weird. Hopefully, I can figure out what's going on before the World Series ends and certainly do so before 22 comes out.

I think I figured it out. Because my major league season ends kind of late (mid-November), it automatically reschedules my Rule 5 draft to after the Winter Meetings...more properly, at least in my league, I think it's 45 days between the start of the offseason and the Rule 5 draft, which explains the "randomness" of the draft date.. No different from it automatically rescheduling roster expansion or the trade deadline if either were scheduled to happen when the schedule ends.

This is easily fixable if I set the Rule 5 Draft to January of the following season. If a season ends after a certain point in November, it would cause the draft not to run if I set it for December because the game seems to have a problem with events that could happen in December or January depending on how long the posteason lasts. Defaulting to January should remedy things.

In other words, it's an oversight on my end and not an issue on the game's, so the OOTP team doesn't have to worry about anything.
