Exclamation Game crashed and now I can't load the game! Help!

I was playing an OOTP 21 file that has had some issues in the past though in recent months it has been working fine. The game crashed when trying to save today (idk why, I have plenty space on my hard drive). I can still view the save's files in File Explorer on my PC but the "Continue Game" prompt is grayed out and the "Load Game" screen does not contain the file I want to load. When trying to load from backup, all the .dat files are grayed out.

Where has the file gone? Why can I not open it? If it is still on my computer, why is it that I cannot view it in the game?

In other words, I am quite lost in terms of what to do. If someone could assist me that would be much appreciated.

Something to note: I tried going through the "Import OOTP 20 Game" option to see if I could view my file in the game. I was able to, though when I clicked to import it, I was told I was unable to do so since the file was saved through OOTP 21 and it must be a OOTP 20 file to work. I figured this wouldn't work but thought it was weird how I could see it through this window yet not through the Load Game window.

try this link and follow the path set down by Lukas. It's worked for others with similar issues. Hope it works for you.
