Custom Topps 1972 Inspired Baseball Card (10 color variants)
Here is my replica of the 1972 Topps deck with changes made to accommodate the limitations of OOTP. Attached below are some sample cards I created in a historical sim to test the XML. Let me know what you think!

Fantastic. This takes me back to the days of ripping open packs as a kid in search of that one special card to brag to my friends. Now the only thing left to do is replay that season!

Work Started on 1973!
I have begun work on the graphics for the 1973 card. I am really happy with how they are turning out and wanted to share some of the elements.
Here is the base image of the card. Unlike 1972 this is the same for every card. It is the first one I've made with a vertical back Here are some Icons to indicate the position of the player on the front of the card. The first two are traced from images of actual 1973 Topps cards off of TCDB.com, the second two are so the card will support leagues with the DH position in 1973 and are traced from images of real MLB players, see if you can guess who. Finally the image in my signature is the first and so far only completed fun fact for the back of the card. These illustrated factoids are by far some of my favorite card elements and are a huge reason why 2006 Topps is one of my top 3 sets of all time. I think I'll do 10 different fun facts because the alternative is to do 100 with the first one taking several hours on its own and each one having to be stored in the game data directory. |

Wow. Great. I just started the 1973 season. Played about 50 games. The '73 topps template I'm using is a bit shorter than it's suppose to be. The width is ok. This makes the card and facegen on the card look fat. Something like a '48 or '49 leaf card. I can see by your template, it will be nicer. Thanks for sharing your work.
The one batting stance looks like Julio Franco. The second one possibly Tim Salmon. Those are my guesses. Last edited by zappa1; 10-27-2020 at 10:33 AM. |

Thank you for the kind words, I'm really excited about this one too.
Quote:
The first player was born in New York and played his entire MLB career for one team. When he retired in 2004 (did not play in 1972) he had a career wRC+ of 147 and 5 Silver Slugger awards to his name. The second was a switch hitter who played six positions in his career but never DH. His middle name is Edward and he played more than 100 games in 1972. I found that since the two vertical cards make a narrower image than one vertical one horizontal the game stretches the image to fit the same footprint making the cards appear wider. Maybe thats what happened to the template you're using. I think I fixed the issue by telling the game to generate a wider image with blank space to the right of the back of the card. |

The second one sounds like Pete Rose just by all the positions he played.
The first one is Edgar Martinez. |

Very close to releasing 1973!
I am three custom Fun Fact artworks away from being ready to release the 1973 card. For the first time I will be supporting award cards as well. Writing a generic enough paragraph for the back of the awards cards was a fun challenge as it could not contradict anything that the game tells you while also giving information about the player's season. For this I cherry picked sentences from four years worth of Topps award cards, which makes me disappointed there's no such cards in this years base set (or any since 2006). Here is the base of the award card (based on the manager and team cards from 1973):
and here are some more fun fact artworks: PS: Choosing to do ten fun facts and assigning them randomly is the right way to do it but making everyone in the MLB "Enjoy dancing" would have been so much easier. To think when I started this project I considered doing 100 of them. Last edited by La La La Linoleum; 11-10-2020 at 10:58 AM. |

I think I will finish in the next hour! I just fixed the award card text after realizing that season stats don't seem to work properly either in blocks of text or on award cards (career stats will have to do). Either way, I'm testing everything now and creating sample pics. I can't wait to use them for my fictional league! EDIT: I'm a moron I think the reason the season stats were not working was because I manually created the cards in the offseason. Whoops. Last edited by La La La Linoleum; 11-10-2020 at 09:46 PM. |
