I mean Rosario can go where there's no sunshine, I don't care. But I really really really liked Gimenez.

Apparently every other team thought the same...

I hear you. Normally I would be outraged as well (if I were a Mets fan, that is) if this was another Robinson Cano situation: 35 years old and on the downside of his career. But, refreshingly, Lindor is only 27. He won't even be 28 until this season is over.

The real test will be if they can sign him longterm. If they just traded away good, but not great young players, for a 1 year deal then it was a potential bad move. Without knowing what the season will look like I'm a little less optimistic they are making smart moves.

The talk is, and perhaps it is just talk, that Cohen did this trade* with the definite intention of signing Lindor to a new contract. Hence my comments about "This is going to cost the Mets $$$" and how it doesn't seem to be a problem now.

*I say "Cohen did this trade" because, even though I am aware that the Mets hired Jared Porter as their new GM a month ago, I haven't heard much about him since. Did he pull this off?

Swo predicts:
Mets will definitely sign Lindor...and overpay to do it.

There was a report yesterday here locally that the Indians offered Lindor a $200+ million extension (not sure on how many years) that would kick in after the 2021 season and he said no and he wanted upwards of $300 million, so they decided to then move on and deal him. So any extension would be at least that much money, probably for 5 or 6 years.

If the price tag is 6-yr, $300M he too can go where there is no sunshine.

Well, you are being more generous than you intend, perhaps. Your criterion certainly allows Lindor to join the Rays, who play in a domed stadium. Depending on how liberal an interpretation of "no sunshine" one takes, he could also head for the Astros, Blue Jays, Brewers, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Marlins, or Rangers, all of whom play in stadiums with retractable roofs. They would have to close their roofs on sunny days, however, in order to fulfill your stipulation.

...or the Twins, who play near the Arctic Circle, and where the sunshine season might conceivably fall into a road trip.

The Athletic believes Lindor will sign an extension with the Mets before the season starts, a la Mookie Betts, to avoid competing with the free-agent class of other super shortstops due next offseason.

Congrats to you Mets fans on getting Lindor. He's a great player and a nice kid.

Yesterday I was bored to death in the office and read through pages 10-19 or so of this thread which included some good fun.

This page won't.

Ahh good, I was worried that the Mets were getting too smart.
Good to know their GM is a borderline sexual predator creep and if the team has any sense they should fire him by the end of the week.
And he should never be in another sports from office again.

I mean, who hires a guy named Jared anyway? It's a creepy name. Need proof? This guy. Subway guy. America's first son-in-law. Even that Leto guy (vegan, so naturally suspect to a raccoon like me).

Stay away from Jareds, everybody.

The Mets said they had no idea. I think you have to take them at their word. How they handle it from here will be how they are judged. The Cubs on the other hand, well that sounds like they knew full well and were not willing to do anything internally themselves unless there was going to be litigation. I’m sure we will here more in the coming days but will it just be spin to protect names like Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein? Hmmm, I wonder if Epstein, who is now a MLB consultant, can consult on his own former clubs scandal?? What is scary is that inaction leads me to believe this sort of thing still happens quite often to women in the industry.
