No love for Rangers goalies

FHM not buying Igor Shesterkin's KHL, AHL and NHL performance? At least give the guy some room for growth.

Also, unless this is something new the back-ups last name on his uni and in hockey-reference is Georgiev, no Y

One of those transliteration things with the name, me thinks.
I'd say the Rags have Shestyorkin and Georgiyev. The jerseys say they they have Shesterkin and Georgiev.

I'd think we'd go with what they put on their jerseys and on the official NHL site.

It's transliteration, which is not an exact science.

the ё in Шестёркин is pronounced 'Yo', but it's often transliterated in english as just a simple e.

Similar to Evgeni Malkin, the Russian E at the beginning of the name (Евге́ний), is pronounced 'Ye', but yet we spell it in English as Evgeni and not Yevgeni.

In short, it's probably best to stick with what the NHL officially uses, as that will be the way its known for most people.

I agree. When playing the NHL I should see the spelling used on jerseys. It seems the game is including accent marks.

I think he's rated pretty accurately.

If you can make a good case for him, maybe we'll bump him up

2019-20 NHL 10-2-0 2.52 .932
2019-20 AHL 17-4-5 1.90 .934
2018-19 KHL 24-4-0 1.11 .953

Certainly seems there should be more potential in the game. He's surely regarded as a better goalie prospect than Georgiev which the game ranks higher.

Of course I'm a Rangers fan and I thing Igor is going to be fantastic, but I think even in more neutral rankings he's regarded as having a chance to be a very good goalie.

I'll bite... Igor Shesterkin has a 1.5 ability with a 2.5 potential while Ilya Sorokin has a 2.5 ability with a 4 potential. Based on their KHL stats and granted Shesterkin played in roughly half the amount of games, he has a higher win percentage of games he played in (68% to 55%), a lower GAA (1.56 to 1.57) and a higher Save % (0.935% to 0.930%) and of the two, he has North American experience, putting up great numbers in half a season in the AHL and good numbers through 12 games in the NHL.

If anything, his numbers should match Sorokin's if not top them.

Playing with Shesterkin's ratings in Commish mode, when I set them to what seemed reasonable I ended up with 2.5/4, so yes that sounds good.

Admittedly a Rangers fan, but between KHL, AHL, and NHL (small sample size), Shesterkin had won something like 100 out of 125 games.

I'm usually pretty skeptical about stats in the K, but you've all made a good case. We'll take a look.

I'd say, look at his development and how he compares to goalies coming from the same league through to north america.

I play the Canucks, and if Demko has the same 3 star potential rating as he did last time around, maybe I won't play Challenge mode. I know enough about the game that I think Georgiev should have a 4 star potential.

Shesterkin, not Georgiev.

You guys gotta remember, the stars in FHM aren't quite on par with OOTP. Three star potential is a potential starter.

Obviously we'll have to wait, but look at recent lists of top prospects. You're underrating his current and future potential

Smetana... instead of me creating a similar thread like this one, could you please have a once over for some of the physical players in the league ? They're fighting attributes seems so dang low and it's such a pain to go thru and need to edit them every time I create a new savefile.

I don't know if they were overlooked with so many other things going on, but some of the players are just rated super low.

One more bit of info prior to releasing the new rosters for opening day:

Scott Wheeler of the Athletic lists Shesterkin #2 (behind teammate Alexis Lafreniere) for Calder candidates for the coming season. He's sees him as possibly being one of the top 10 goalies in the league this year with a save pct over .920

So think it over. He's already expected to be a solid starter, with a high ceiling.

I'm not a Rangers fan, but I follow prospects very closely in real life. Shesterkin should have 2.5-3 star ability and 4 or 4+ potential. He's an amazing goalie amd better than Sorokin imo.

Maybe a sticky thread for players to discuss player ratings would be a good idea.
