Lack of quality players of the new generation
The last 10 NHL drafts generated only 1 player, that has now (2030) 5 stars. Ironically, it is a defensman from Belarus, who isnt in NHL (See Bug Forum).
Laffy, Bedard, Michkov.... Maximum is 4 and half stars. Even the Positional ranking shows declining lack of quality. It is a bug or it was done by purpose? |

This was happening in FHM6 too, but it's self correcting depending on how you weight the stats when you first set up the game. If you bring it a player with 2 stars actual and 3.5 stars potential at, say, 20 years old, they often grow to be 4 stars or better.
What I haven't figured out in the FHM7 is whether there's a hidden correlation between the quality of scouts you hire and their ability to recommend drafting a certain player who CAN grow beyond his initial potential. That's kind of a cool feature, if so, but I haven't figured it out quite yet. |

Wow, is this common for anyone else? I haven't made it far into my save yet but this is pretty much a deal breaker for me. This is going to need to be adjusted if this is happening in the majority of games.

Draft classes are more random as you go. However they're not being five-star guys is not a big deal. Five-star guys are supposed to be game changers, elite, top end, franchise making guys. whether or not we like to admit it, those guys do not exist every year. There's nothing wrong with having years where they don't exist. There's nothing wrong with players being only four stars or even three and a half either. They can still be very good and very effective players in the NHL who go on to have Hall of Fame careers.

Think of it in the same vein as EA's NHL series or SI's EHM. 5 Stars should be the "Franchise" players that pop in every so often(The McDavids, Crosby's, OVs, etc.) like Adam was saying.
Easy way to break down the stars compared to EA's 5 Stars = Franchise 4-4.5 = Elite 3-3.5 = Top 6 2.5 = Top 9 2.0 = 4th line

I also have the same problem with the poorer quality of the generated players.

For example the recent 2nd and 3rd overall picks Byfield and Stutzle developed into 3 star guys, and Shane Wright the best can't miss prospect since McDavid/Matthews is a 3.5 star guy. I know some players development stall, and not all highly rated prospects should pan out, but there is a clear trend there that players don't develop as well as they should. When you first set up your game (at least in Challenge Mode), you will see this screen. At the bottom, you can decide how much weight to give to stats and how to spread them over the past three years. If you put a lot of value in stats and you give a prospect who's decent some first-line minutes, they seem to exceed their maximum potential in most cases,

Me too. Also junior leagues like QMJHL, OHL and WHL have very few players with 100 points season. If, then this players are above 20 years limit. Very strange. This all was good in FHM 6. And for me it is a big minus.

Thank you for raising this. Having a couple of elite players as your core, seeing them do great and going for winning several cups is the main appeal of the game for me. 4 players over 79 points is no fun, while at the same time being very unrealistic with the way scoring has been the past few years.
I thought FHM 6 was good in this. 100 points was really good and not too common, but the very elite could score around 120 now and then, as we see IRL the past few years. |

I'm finding that most players are only getting about 2.5-3 stars. Makes it hard to win and not so fun to play.

Did you change how points affect stats? Are you finding scoring down? Players 2.5 to 3 stars can still be very effective players in the NHL. Can you provide more details?

I have not changed how points affect stats, everything is base game. Scoring is way down, I've tried adjusting tactics different line combinations but it seems it is very unlikely that they produce on a regualr enough basis to help the team.

Can it be worse? Not even 40-goals for Maurice Richard.
